jon, I do hope Consumer Cellular Link II is better than the two I own as I would rate the among the most dreadful of any flip I’ve ever owned: delayed key response for text msgs, horrid pics, speaker that has a mind of its own and just an overall piece of CCP trash. C. Cellular is a grand company, but this flip is a POS.

Okay, call me a Luddite, if you must...

I haven’t had a land line since the early 90s nor a cell phone since 2018.

I don’t even know what an “app” is, nor do I care.

... ... 8GB (or 4GB) of RAM.
And either 64GB or 128GB solid state drive storage.
And the bottom half of the system unit is a empty internal
drive bay for a 2 1/2 inch hard disk drive OR an additional
solid state drive. But I am only going by the specifications
on that drive bay - I have not popped it open yet.

Well sounds like fun; mine, although it’s just a flipfone has a camera feature plus internet but I don’t use them.

I have the same set of rules. Not only that, I don’t own a Shop Smith. Each separate woodworking machine has its own motor.

I just bought the new Galaxy A53 5G from Samsung. Comes with free $170 wireless earbuds (never used earbuds but I guess they'd be handy for calls while driving). Just pair your phone to your vehicle's bluetooth and you can enjoy hands-free telephone calls while driving, as you use the radio speakers to hear your calls.

Thanks for that good advice, Erik. My model year is 2005 though, so no Bluetooth. Maybe my next vehicle :-)

"...I don’t even know what an “app” is..." Simply put: An 'App' (short for 'application') is a
computer program that does something.
That 'something' that it 'does' is whatever it
was designed and built to do.
With any luck, it may actually do it.
But no guarantees, of course.

Well I charged the ol Blackberry and it got hot when I pressed some buttons, but no screen. Anyway, Google Voice is a good option for non-activated phones - if you can get a wifi signal. We still use landlines and cordless phones, but the range of them and wifi is about the same, as it is with my
cheap FM transmitter that runs day and night continuously broadcasting quality Christian preaching, which range is about 100 feet. Thank God.

Oh my! I've been employed writing software since 1972. Is there some reason you think I wouldn't know what an application might be?
The lead-in quote did not come from one of my posts.

My wife and I text on our Tracfones, too much.
Tracfone was just bought out and we had some problems this month, logging on, and even buying more texts. They failed to recognize our logon, used for over a decade to buy more texts.
When you get a live person, sometimes, it sounds like they are on a boat out past our 10 mile limit re accents and poor connections. English is probably not even a second language, and you might wait an hour to be misunderstood re what your problem or goal is.
We are looking for alternatives, and our younger relatives who are into this stuff are telling us that if you don’t have a 5 K cell phone, you could be out of touch in a year!
We have had basically no problems with one line over a decade old relationship.

[So, I have an older HP laptop that was drowning in MS Win7]
If it takes a SATA drive, YMMV, but you may be able to keep it functional with an SSD drive by reinstalliing Win 7. 5⁰0gb typically costs ~$50. My 14 year old desktop went from booting in 5 minutes before the switch down to 30 seconds afterwards.
