Digital cameras was one of the great disruption events. Seemed like the blink of an eye that everybody (except the professionals) stopped using film based cameras.
In the mid 1990s, I had purchased my first and only high end film camera with a detachable zoom lens and all the other bells and whistles. It was a Minolta and I think I paid about $800 at the time and got it from Hunts Photo in Melrose, MA, which was a really high end store. I probably still have it in a cardboard box somewhere in mint condition.
A few years ago my elderly mom got a huge rebate because of a faulty appliance that couldn't be directly replaced under warranty. She got a replacement, but the replacement value was considerably less. It was enough to buy an iPhone and then some. I told her to buy an iPhone with proceeds. After a month or so, she decided to ditch the L/L and switch the number to the mobile device.
I have some negatives (but they’re not really negative) of photos taken with “medium format” in the late ‘80s that I’d love to have processed. I’ve called, emailed, etc., so many photo processors and they’ve basically never heard of such a thing.
No, you just connect to the Internet on your non-activated phone as you would with a laptop (find the wifi and connect) and then see here and here.
I no longer use it, though it can be handy.

Selling points: physical durability, weather and water resistance, easy enough use, good enough battery life, cost is reasonable. However the plan price per month/year is where cell and IPhone companies really make their money. Cost to value depends on what plan you can get in relation to how the phone is used. The are also "minimalist" phones that try to be a compromise between cell and IPhone too, when cell phones are too basic and IPhones are too much.
No, I am not a Verizon rep.
I use a yuge smartphone because my laptop is too heavy to hold up to my nose.
That said, thanks to Deep State, I’m ready to go back to a frigging landline and just deep six my cell.
Delorme gazeteers.
Don’t leave home without them.
I wish we could still have a landline. They seem to have been phased-out in my area.
