Here in my Pittsburgh, PA suburb, pharmacies close earlier, as does the hot food section of my grocery. These are changes from the last year or two.
d be disgusted if I came to Applebee’s for lunch at Applebee’s and it was closed because of woke employees.
And I’m disgusted that so many Freepers don’t believe in the free market and think that laborers are an inferior class not entitled to negotiate their wages.
What sort of stupid-@ss manager tries to cut salaries during an economy-wide labor shortage??

You are right, everyone should be able to negotiate for the best compensation they can get for the work they provide.
In this particular case the corporate management seems to lack basic management skills. I can't imagine trying to get top performance out of a group of employees if they knew corporate considered them as expendable and hopefully replaced with people willing to work for less.
That's about as dumb as putting a sign at the door of the restaurant which says "Our goal is to get as much money out of your wallet as we can while serving you the cheapest meal we can get away with."
The local fast food joints here are all offering $17+ per hour. A&W, Rotten Ronnie’s. BK. They are all crying for staff
This was SOP thirty years ago. I recall some lib writing an Oped about being a summer hire at the largest employer in his city and accessing the salaried employees pay and benefits information. Like Ellsberg he spent a number evening s copying it and preparing a mass in house hard copy mailing. He truly revelled in the huge uproar that followed with the attendant angry feelings as workers found out the person next to them made a couple thousand dollars more than they did. The perpetrator was fired, which gave him an opportunity to tell the story to the local rag. His father who had gotten him the job got no sympathy for his son who told him that he knew he was a Marxist and hated the Fing bosses. The op-ed was on how everyone could figure out some way to sabotage management if they just looked for opportunities even it was as small a thing as dropping pieces of metal into copy machines. This guy is, of course, an academic today.

now that all of the existing workers quit who had higher wages, the restaurant can now hire ALL workers at the new lower wage ...

at my last experience [decades ago] at an Applebees, they left off the chicken from the chicken breast salad ... they finally corrected the error, but haven’t been back since ... besides, i’m a great cook who makes very tasty, healthy food from top-notch, fresh ingredients ...

A. Salaries are not at issue here, wages are ...
B. And no wages were cut ... simply that lower starting wages were discussed for NEW employees, with the higher wages of existing staff being maintained ...
Bad management will cause a company to fail pretty fast. These managers seem to be idiots.
The problem now is that there's a shortage of people who can afford to work for low pay and the decades of bringing in illegal aliens from all over the planet has proved to worsen the problem.
Well, it sure looks like the qualifications and need for brains are low.

Seems like corporate Applebee’s has lost touch with their workforce and reality. There is such a labor shortage right now in the restaurant business that if you want to work you can immediately switch jobs. It doesn’t take too much for people to figure out you don’t switch to lower wage jobs. Anyone currently not working isn’t worth hiring if you ask me. Why would any manager want someone that sat on his ass for the past two years during the pandemic?
