The congress doesn’t spend hundreds of billions on NSA Metadata harvesting centers only to not use it for their own political purposes and for the purposes of favor to others. To think otherwise is to profess ignorance of history.
All of these firms should have told the feds to go take a hike years ago. But instead, because they are ALL greedy (seed money/payoff), want favors in return (government contract/favorable relationship)... cooperate in ways they shouldn’t.

That doesn’t mean they won’t have to answer to a US subpoena. That means that the US has to go through the Swiss legal system, but if the Swiss allow the subpoena to proceed, Protonmail has to give up the data.
Microsoft bent over backwards to disclose but were barred from doing so at the risk of the DoJ coming down on them. Project Veritas’ document dump clearly shows Microsoft’s internal legal teams (CELA) had legal briefs at hand to file but never got to. As soon as they were greenlit to disclose, they told Project Veritas everything. I’d say this is pretty damned commendable of them.
