Yes, actually that is the only explanation that makes any sense.
Methinks, Putin's price for help with brokering the Iran deal was the Ukraine, but we had to show some token indignation to Russia's invasion since we brokered the Budapest Memorandum.
Biden would offer Zelinsky a way out after a couple of days and Putin would have what he wanted.
But then of course Zelinsky didn't go, and well here we are.
It explains why the Russian military have done so poorly, why they are continuously having supply issues, and why we keep giving the Russians secret carve outs to the crippling sanctions we are supposed to be levying on them.
But this also would mean our ruling class would do absolutely anything to keep Putin's mouth shut, and Putin would be so enraged at being double crossed, he would have no problem with starting WWIII the microsecond he thought he was losing control of the country.

We of course refused, and chest bumped them into a fight.
