LA City Crews Clear Little Tokyo Homeless Encampment

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – Authorities late Thursday night and early Friday morning cleared out a large homeless encampment from downtown Los Angeles’ Little Tokyo.

The dozens of homeless people living in Little Tokyo’s Toriumi Plaza had been given a 10 p.m. Thursday deadline to move out. A group of homeless activists picketed outside the plaza Thursday morning.

A fence was placed around the plaza and city cleanup crews overnight removed remaining items, trash and debris. Several of the homeless, however, brought their tents to just beyond the fences and set them up on the sidewalks outside.

I used to go to LT with my family once a week in the 1950s and 1960s until more Japanese grocery stores and restaurants started to open up in other areas. Haven't been there in over 15 years.

Jesus said “If you do this unto the least of thee, you do it unto Me.” The homeless are the least of us.

Follow up:

Yesterday we rousted a homeless, foul-mouthed, horrible man from our ministry of giving free food away. I took partial video of the interaction.

The vast majority of the other ‘least of thees’ are respectful and quiet and grateful for the free food. I doubt this guy counts as Jesus but we treated him with enough respect for it to count. He was probably high as a kite. Disgusting troll of a creature. But God created him.

So...leaving them out on the street is helping them? These people need to be placed in institutions, not left on the street. They're mentally ill addicts.

***Jesus also said, “The poor you will always have with you. You will not always have Me.”

If we as a society aint gonna provide those “institutions” [which are probably horror stories in and of themselves], then we should be mindful of how they’re gonna interact with the rest of society.

I was watching a documentary on homelessness in Hawaii. There’s a community of homeless. It’s clean enough, quiet enough, crime-resistant enough — it’s just poor, that’s all. They kick out druggies, trouble makers, and criminals.

Once those dregs have no place left to go, there’s really only one group that wants them: Christians.

Christian charity is wonderful. Unfortunately some aren’t helped through such charitable programs. We don’t seem to have an answer to the mentally ill homeless, and what to do with them.

The homeless are the least of us.

That blanket statement is false. Some of them may be, but many of them are there by choice.

How to tell:

Take a handful of change and offer it to one of them alone (not in a group as the fakers will steal it, or you get mugged). Say that you are giving it in "Jesus name because He alone Saves".

If the "homeless" person rolls his eyes or declines it, they are fakers - just looking for a free home.

If you don't have the cash, go up to the "homeless" person and offer since "Jesus Saves" to go with them to the grocery store and buy them a bag of food there or buy the food that they tell you they would like. The fakers will roll there eyes and many will simply decline.

Never give cash over a handful of change. Offer to pay their overdue bills in Person but never give over a handful of change. Cash over $1 will go to alcohol and drugs in a heartbeat.

If you have a small job in your yard you can offer them in food as exchange, you will be surprised at how many will decline.

A truly "homeless" person, one of the least of these will take anything or do anything, they are very humble. It is a real ministry done one on one.

Those independent Asian markets are fabulous! Where I lived in Chicago there were several, mostly run by Vietnamese. They had a wonderful selection of fresh veggies — esp. greens — and oodles of inexpensive spices, noodles, savory crackers, etc. No bread, no dairy, very little processed junkfood.

The homeless are the least of us.
That blanket statement is false.
***By all means, show us who are the least of us. Until you do, your statement is false.

Some of them may be, but many of them are there by choice.
***I work with such people all day. Many, if not most, choose homelessness because it’s what they can afford. They cannot afford $900/month for a simple room in a house with kitchen priveleges.

How to tell:
Take a handful of change and offer it to one of them alone (not in a group as the fakers will steal it, or you get mugged). Say that you are giving it in “Jesus name because He alone Saves”. If the “homeless” person rolls his eyes or declines it, they are fakers - just looking for a free home.
***This is a pretty contrived hypothetical. I have never had a homeless person turn down my pocketful of change.

If you don’t have the cash, go up to the “homeless” person and offer since “Jesus Saves” to go with them to the grocery store and buy them a bag of food
***I do this, almost every day. I put in 4 days/week giving away free food. I’ve posted about it here on FR. We recently had quite a bit of press
https://www.mercurynews.com/2022/01/13/san-jose-food-pantry-reopens-but-for-how-long/

there or buy the food that they tell you they would like. The fakers will roll there eyes and many will simply decline.
***I think you are living in your own enclave of some sort.

Never give cash over a handful of change. Offer to pay their overdue bills in Person
***The homeless I work with will all gladly accept such an offer. I really don’t know where you’re going with this.

but never give over a handful of change. Cash over $1 will go to alcohol and drugs in a heartbeat.
***That is just your assertion. It could be a valid assertion, but I really don’t care because I’m regularly giving out free FOOD.

If you have a small job in your yard you can offer them in food as exchange, you will be surprised at how many will decline.
***They’re smart enough to know that there are minimum wage laws on the books. I have seen what homeless are willing to do “in exchange” for food, but I’m far more interested in what people will do when the food and the gospel are basically free.

A truly “homeless” person,
***”Crap” writing. By putting quotes around sumthin, you make 2 distinct meanings of that phrase. Say what you mean and mean what you say.

one of the least of these will take anything or do anything, they are very humble.
***Like I’ve said, I work with the least of these 4 days/week. I think I have a far better sense of what is going on than you do.

It is a real ministry done one on one.
***It is a pile of crap what you just wrote, adding meaningless phrase on top of pablum.

The really smart ones will accept and throw their back out doing the yard work. At some point in time, your homeowner's insurance company will be in touch to get your side of the story.

Put a bucket of fentanyl on each corner of the park. It only takes a day or so to knock down the infestation. I would recommend doing this in cold weather.

If Asian Americans are homeless in material numbers in LA, then the 7th Seal has been broken and Armageddon is at hand.

I worked with a Chinese American who said he lived on Skid Row for a few months. He said it was not a drug or discipline issue just he was unemployed.
