Australia started as a penal colony and never really asserted its independence from snivelling British idiots.
So larrikin (a word a little like outlaw but metaphorical and less criminal) humour has always had a place.
Paul Hogan was a watered down example. The anarchic disruptive energy of Heath Ledger as the Joker might be seen as Aussie larrikinism at its extreme best or worst.
For me creating the comic character Jim Cousens has been a far healthier reaction to the absurdities of PC crap than pretending to respect it.
Give me a bogan over a dink, umup anyday
Why can’t Long Grassers get any respect?
