All high schools should require EKGs prior to participation. I was involved with research that found we don’t need echocardiograms in every athlete to prevent death by hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, but we do need an EKG and a good history and exam. If your high school isn’t doing it hopefully it will be soon.

ll high school students who desire to participate in one of the available athletic programs are now required to have an electrocardiogram (ECG) screening.

High school athletes had to have physicals but an electrocardiogram is new.
