Hard to really know what is happening. However if the Russians forgot the bitter lessons they learned in 1945 and send their armor into urban battles, the real numbers of destroyed tanks and vehicles will rise quickly.

Fine, but where disclosure of all the equipment left behind in Afghanistan. Russian losses pale in comparison to what we freely left behind.

Russia will probably win this thing in the end but it will be at high cost like the Chinese incursion into Việt nam in ‘79. The Chinese accomplished their stated goals but at a far higher than anticipated cost in soldiers, equipment and aircraft..

An excellent observation. But perhaps the sales opportunities for "analysis" aren't as hot-off-the-press for the Biden idiocy in exiting Afghanistan as he did.

I agree....Last I read a couple days ago was that 100,000 “Ukrainians” went to Russia. I’m betting there’s double that.

More arms on the way

“U.S. President Joe Biden on Saturday authorized $200 million in weapons and other assistance for Ukraine, the White House said.”

Red China’s main goal was to demonstrate they were the dominant power in southeast Asia; they accomplished that.

Russia cannot win in Ukraine. Absolutely impossible without using overwhelming WMD attacks.

The UKRs have many advantages.

-Manpower and geographic advantage.
-Excellent ISR with multinational sourcing (read satellites and multi faceted intercepts).
-Excellent counter-intel and Russian speaking adversaries.
-No crypto voice comms. They talk in the clear via cellphone most often.
-Mud
-Broken and possibly infiltrated C&C
-Robust logistics supply from Europe.
-Springtime will boost concealment allowing more aggressive ambushing by infantry.
-UKR holding assets in reserve for when the ground hardens for counter-attack which will occur once Russian ground and air assets are significantly diminished.
-Plentiful MANPADS and ATGMs.
-Patriot SAMs for Lvov air port.
-Extensive rail system.

Are those daily totals or a running sum? If they’re daily then the ruskies have about run out of tanks in the initial invasion.

All you list is true. However some things just don’t add up. The Ukrainians know the terrain, are motivated, courageous and have a good cultural knowledge of their opponents. Yet explain how that “forty mile long column” that just sat immobile on a road just northeast of Kiev and was not systematically attacked. Apparently it has now deployed and is participating in the attack, especially the shelling of Kiev. In Vietnam the NVA and VC would have attacked that column constantly with mortars, sappers, snipers, night attacks etc. etc etc. Its a great mystery why it was not significantly attacked. Perhaps tells the world more about what is really happening in Ukraine that all the material on social media.

“Yet explain how that “forty mile long column” that just sat immobile on a road just northeast of Kiev and was not systematically attacked.”

Possibly the soldiers mutinied so they were left alone.

The current ‘deployment’ is actually defensive if you look at terrain and how they deployed. Equipment is bunched up and screened by woods where infantry is deployed. This is done to protect against ATGMs.

Some units have deployed to the West of Kiev. Imo these are the good morale units with better training. They are being engaged by the UKRs.

We’ll see if the UKRs bring artillery to bear in the coming days. IMO they will keep high value equipment in reserve for future counter attacks. The mud and expanse is currently helping wear down the Russians using small team tactics. It will pick up once the foliage comes out.

It’s Putin vs. the Russian people now. How much can they endure before he’s escorted away?

Why do you think the convoy was stalled?

Just having a picnic on the side of the road? No, parts of the convoy were hit. Vehicles behind them then could no longer move forward.

The shame is Ukraine’s airforce wasn’t able to wipe them out quickly. Ukraine was using turkish drones and ATGM from small ambushes to halt the convoy.

Some speculation and some indications are that Russia will use a tactical nuke and/or gas and Putin has mentioned tactical nukes. The captured Russian troops are found to be supplied with gas protection gear. Putin must win or he will find himself removed from power or dead.

With Biden controlling American response he likely calculates that the American/NATO response will be a lot of shouting and posturing and no effective action. If Vlad P. just keeps sacrificing troops and equipment he can stretch it out until Biden offers him Ukraine for some empty promises.

As I said, they did what they set out to do. The price was such that China will no do it again until it is ready to apply enough force and take enough losses to take the whole country. Taiwan comes first when that determination is made.
