Star conductor and close friend of Putin dropped by his management ahead of deadline to speak out or be fired from Munich Philharmonic
Russia’s star conductor, Valery Gergiev, has been dropped by his management over his close ties to Vladimir Putin as he faces a looming deadline to publicly denounce the Russian president or lose yet another role in his rapidly crumbling career.
The 68-year-old Russian, an old friend and supporter of Putin, has faced increasing pressure to speak out against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine over the last week. He has been removed from performances around the world and faces more professional punishment if he does not condemn Putin’s aggression in the next 24 hours.
On Sunday, his manager, Marcus Felsner, announced he would be dropping Gergiev, who he called “the greatest conductor alive and an extraordinary human being with a profound sense of decency”, but who “will not, or cannot, publicly end his long-expressed support for a regime that has come to commit such crimes.”

Just a minor trial in Nuremberg. Held for the purpose of bringing Nazi war criminals to justice, the Nuremberg trials were a series of 13 trials carried out in Nuremberg, Germany, between 1945 and 1949. The defendants, who included Nazi Party officials and high-ranking military officers along with German industrialists, lawyers and doctors, were indicted on such charges as crimes against peace and crimes against humanity.
It’s liberal brainwashing to think the UN is helping and not a bunch of grifters.
That’s not the issue. The issue is that the UN defined “war crimes” and Russia signed on to that definition. Why should we pretend that this is some grey area when it most certainly is not?
” were indicted on such charges as crimes against peace and crimes against humanity”
LMAO, I love it when a person’s own quote defeats their point. By your own source, we didn’t charge people with “associating with Hitler”. We charged them with defined crimes under international treaties that Germany was a signatory to.
ahhhh, a friend of Putin...
Ya hate to see it.
yep, associating with Hitler.
Not according to YOUR source!
Just gonna pull something out of your rear end now?
He's just an artist, a conductor. I'm sure Jamal Khashoggi was simply a newsman.
I didn’t say he was ‘just’ anything. He’s a man with opinions, as are you. Do you think it’s OK for your employer to fire you because he doesn’t like your political opinions? If so, I don’t want what you’re selling. I don’t agree with you, but I’ll fight to the death for your right to speak this nonsense.
If I was a internationally well known figure and aligned, supported and spoke out publicly in favor of a mass murderer who is burning women and children as we speak, I would expect and respect my employer for firing me because I would deserve it.
They'll be tossing his CDs into the flames, like Beatles albums...
