Star conductor and close friend of Putin dropped by his management ahead of deadline to speak out or be fired from Munich Philharmonic
Russia’s star conductor, Valery Gergiev, has been dropped by his management over his close ties to Vladimir Putin as he faces a looming deadline to publicly denounce the Russian president or lose yet another role in his rapidly crumbling career.
The 68-year-old Russian, an old friend and supporter of Putin, has faced increasing pressure to speak out against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine over the last week. He has been removed from performances around the world and faces more professional punishment if he does not condemn Putin’s aggression in the next 24 hours.
On Sunday, his manager, Marcus Felsner, announced he would be dropping Gergiev, who he called “the greatest conductor alive and an extraordinary human being with a profound sense of decency”, but who “will not, or cannot, publicly end his long-expressed support for a regime that has come to commit such crimes.”

Unfortunately, Munich does not have a reputation for Jeffersonian/Lockean negative rights theory, but you already knew that 🙄
“Because that’s what we all agreed to, right? “ sez my wife without reservation, when no one else has given an opinion.
You must have the same nightmares i have.
I guess I'm a simpleton. You see as an example, I would not have hired Michael Vick as a "conductor" of a TV commentary team unless he "denounced" his actions. I can boycott, but if I were the hiring manager I'd cancel him if he refused. The problem is we are cancelling for the wrong reasons, not that cancelling in an of itself is a bad thing. If Vick wants to say stuff on the public square fine, I wouldn't cancel him for that or limit it.
Same thing happens in our country. Fire whomever disagrees with us.
I can’t believe people around here.
Maybe we should round people up who are of a certain belief or heritage and put them in a camp.
I love Moussorgsky... especially Pictures at an Exhibition.
He can say it on the soap box, I don't have to pay his salary.
So now we have loyalty tests in addition to vaxx mandates if you want to work? Obey the government’s dictates or your ability to support yourself will be removed, and if you go too far off the reservation they might decide to freeze your bank account too. Things that were once considered civil rights are gradually taken away unless you pass the government’s loyalty test. Shows how fragile our personal freedoms are in this new world order, all can be taken away if you don’t hold the ‘right’ opinions.
Then change it, you've allowed the corporate elites to dictate cancel culture.
Don’t be surprised if some suggest putting ethnic Russians in camps.
“All Russians have to do some serious soul searching because a lot of decent people did support Putin in exchange for patriotic glory, and did ultimately have some hand in appeasing and enabling the monstrous regime.”
You sound like an aspiring fascist.
Yes we should! If they murder people, but instead of calling it a camp, let's call it a jail.
There isn’t. War is the absence of law.
Only in the 20th century did we start using the term “War Crime”.
Who cares about your opinion. You are a criminal as you support their version of crimes against humanity.
Your own country invaded Afghanistan without a declaration of war and conducted acts of war while there, yet, another war crime.
See, you are a war criminal.
Exactly right. People need to stand up, I support those Russians who are protesting in Moscow.
Then why are you here? And tell me, what other sites would you guys recommend that are "more conservative?"
You are the one who should be fired.
“I don’t support their opinion.”
Putin doesn’t support your opinions, either.
You like to hide behind the childish “war crimes” crap until it points in your direction, right, Sunshine? Just a little girl who thinks her opinions are the only ones that matter.
Yea, Okey dokey
