It appears the Russians are using our version of “shock and awe” by avoiding large civilian casualties; avoiding WW II type bombing of cities; using very selective attacks and NOT targeting mass infrastructure that would lead to high casualties. They apparently learned that while this won’t keep the rest of the world, or the West, out entirely, it will minimize the outrage.
We’ll see though. Virtually all of the news is fake. For having 50,000 men inside Ukraine, there is almost zero footage of combat (far less than in Iraq) including cell phones.

Indeed. The Russian expectation seems to have been that if they destroy a few military bases and cross the border in force Ukraine will surrender.
The problem they now face is that they haven’t. They now have to decide if they are willing to start levelling major cites, or if is time to claim victory and go home.

This is incorrect. The Russians are more or less indiscriminately bombing the cities of Ukraine.

The reason Putin is doing this is because he fears the outrage within Russia if he killed thousands of fellow Eastern Slavs.

Why is anyone shocked Russia invades Ukraine… well I thought he could intimidate without invasion but I’ve no clue what assurances zelensky got from the west
