President Joe Biden has made his choice to replace Justice Stephen Breyer on the Supreme Court, according to multiple media reports. Biden will announce today that he will nominate Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, to the court.
If confirmed, Jackson would become the first Black woman to serve on the court. She is 51. That would make her the second-youngest justice on the current court. Justice Amy Coney Barrett turned 50 in January.
She would also be the first justice since Thurgood Marshall who served as a longtime defense lawyer. Breyer was appointed by President Bill Clinton in 1994. Jackson would not change the court’s current 6-to-3 conservative supermajority.
Former House Speaker Paul Ryan is a relative by marriage. Jackson’s husband, Patrick Jackson, is the twin brother of Ryan’s brother-in-law William Jackson.
Ryan testified on Brown’s behalf when she was nominated to the district court in 2012 saying:
“Our politics may differ, but my praise for Ketanji’s intellect, for her character, for her integrity is unequivocal.
“She’s an amazing person, and I favorably recommend her consideration.
“We’re family, by marriage.
“Her brother and sister-in-law, who are my brother and sister-in-law, William and Dana Jackson, are here with us as well today,” Ryan said.

Looks like a real winner.
I don’t get the Ryan related connection. His brother in law is related to her and that makes Paul Ryan a family relation somehow?
Well, seeing how the great conservatives turned into cheap tents, it’s fairly irrelevant. All 3 of President Trump’s picks have disappointed.
“Our politics may differ...”
Probably not all that much.
Picked only for the color of her skin and gender.
She must be proud to be an affirmative action SC Pick.
Sundance at CTH predicted it. She was set up for this by Obama. All part of the takeover plan.
Might be Biden’s best choice yet for any position of which he has made a nomination.
Still not saying a whole lot of applause should be due.
Just that it was not Kamala (or “Que mala”) Harris.
The article did say “by marriage” several times.
I have a dream that one day I’ll live in a nation where Supreme Court justices are chosen for the content of their character, their intellect and their allegiance to the Constitution and not for their political activism, their genitalia and the color of their skin.
Correction: Jackson would not change the court’s current 5-to-4 conservative majority.
If we can remain confident that her ideology would remain a meager minority on the court, I’d say go for it. The stark contrast between sound judicial reason and infantile feelings/race-based “logic” would be a great lesson for many who are watching.
For once I would like to see one of these leftard Justices picked for SCOTUS and flip the other way instead. We’ve had way too many backstabbing traitors picked by Republican presidents. Not that I’m holding out hope for this one but what a nice surprise it will be.
She’ll be there for 35 years. So far left you can’t find her on the radar screen.
I’m guessing she’ll sail through the hearings with nary a dissenting voice. Nobody will dare oppose a black woman in this political environment. If the Republican senators had any guts they would object on principle.
Do you care ? I don’t
I’m sure Kunta Ketanji will fit in well with left’s lunacy. She has the looks they want. Nothing else much matters.
A name that Joe won’t be able to remember or pronounce.
This should be fun.
Huh?! One increasingly needs a translator from extraterrestrial to English to understand much of print journalism these days.
