What an embarrassment for the Son of Fidel and his very jumpy sidekick! After grandly announcing that protesters' bank accounts would be frozen they had to BACKTRACK completely just days with the announcement that those bank accounts would be unfrozen. Why? Not because they were enlightened about human rights but because their dopey decision caused a financial crises in the Canadian banking system.

With interest rates so low, why would anyone keep their money in a bank beyond a checking account for expenses?
I'm sure the democrats in this country would LOVE to freeze the bank accounts of every person who donated to other than democrat candidates, donated to Free Republic, the Heritage Foundation, Hillsdale College.
Remember when the democrats weaponized the IRS against the Tea Party?

Tens of thousands of people withdrawing large amounts of cash will quickly result in there being no physical cash in the system.
The rest of the population seeing that they can’t get cash from ANY bank, will bring down the system.

I know whose accounts I’d love to freeze. I’ll give you a hint: he founded the move on organization.

I think two things ran through their minds. One, when this all ‘ends’...those folks you screwed will come for their money and leave. Add to it...thousands probably walked in and started closing their accounts....saying they couldn’t trust the bank any longer.
The other thing, when you sign all those papers to start an account, it says in plain language how they can terminate/freeze your account. I looked at my forms when this started up. Typically...either a judge’s order starts the process, or you defrauded the bank. I suspect the Canadian banks had the same type of wording, and feared where this was going.

for example, RBC bank claims to be a U.S. bank specifically designed for Canadians to conduct cross-border transactions ... if RBC is REALLY a U.S. bank, then they wouldn’t be subject to the whims of Canadian despots ... Unless Biden orders them to cooperate with Canada.

I can only assume that a lot of people would think long and hard about which is a safer place to put your money - the bank, or your mattress.
And responded accordingly.

For anyone who says "It can't happen here." They de-banked My Pillow Mike Lindell.
Also: the actions of Canada's leftists toward trucker protesters (freezing their accounts), combined with IRS here, looking at all transactions over $600, and considering what was done to Lindell, all of this, makes it seem like maybe seizing citizens money for "wrong think", is what they ultimately have in mind?🤔

I hadn’t heard about any blowback of consequence.
There may be a reason for that. To quote an old newspaper mogul - If we don’t report it, it didn’t happen.

I think their hope is that it keeps the larger population from being afraid their money is exposed to government intrusion so they pull their money out. And in a time of low or zero interest rates, your mattress may be safer than a bank. At least it’s safer from the government. That is, it’s a lot harder for them to get at it. :)

Folks in Canada have realized if the dictator could cause the freezing of bank accounts of the protestors and people who donated to them, he could freeze anyone's account. That is not something one wants to chance, even if they don't like the protests. They apparently froze accounts of people CONNECTED to donors.
How would you like to find out YOUR bank account was frozen because your spouse or kid or parent donated to the Truckers?

"freezing peoples money in their 0% interest bank accounts"
Right. The only reason to have money in a bank is because it is supposedly "safer" than stuffing it in your mattress, since interest rates are not an incentive. But now we are learning that, in addition to getting basically no interest on it, our money in banks isn't much safer at all, if the government can take it at any time on a whim.

How does this stop the banking crisis? If my funds were frozen and then unfrozen, does anybody think I’d leave my funds in the bank? Some years ago I was in a dispute with the IRS, and they froze my bank account (which had money well in excess of what they claimed I owed).
Since then I made sure I had some cash in my gun safe.

Methinks it will be forgotten within 2 weeks. The MSM aren’t even reporting on it already.

However, given the fact that the Canadian authorities backtracked the funds freezing after only a few days the conclusion seems obvious!
***If it looks like a bank run, smells like a bank run, walks like a bank run, sounds like a bank run and flies like a bank run, it’s probably a bank run.
