For the 32nd Saturday in a row, Parisians took to the streets to demand the end of COVID restrictions & vaccine passports. Except, this time, the police joined the protesters. Take a look.

Yes, the Swiss guards were at the Tuileries guarding the royal suite when they were all killed then beheaded.

Their heads were propped on spears as the Royal family was escorted into Paris, and the last remaining guards were the first to be guillotined.

The Louis XXVI had Austrian troops sent in to stop the revolution and republicans, and when they were imprisoned, Marie Antoinette was giving away French troop movements to her family in Austria. That didn’t help his cause at all.

Two years ago, when an elderly neighbor passed, her kids put the house up for sale or rent Sec.8 across the street from us.

Then there were multiple people staying in the home. One night there was the sound of gunfire. People were called and they were refusing to open the door. Now there are homes that must be Sec 8 rented with 10 cars parked on the lawn or sidewalk.

Delivery driving has exposed a lot of the rundown areas close to me I never saw before. Whole neighborhoods of Arabs and Indians that used to be owned by White middle class, they’re doing a lot better than now.

I should proofread more. I meant “police” were called.

Oh, I hadn’t known that. But thank you for this fascinating bit of information.

And about unhappy, naive Marie Antoinette: that was maybe a factor in her process before the revolutionary tribunal.

I think, not just this, but especially her extravagant way of life had made her many enemies in France, so much indeed that it was difficult, even for many historians, to show her the sympathy which her cruel fate deserved - on a human level (imho).

I’ve been reading about the French Revolution for years and watching documentaries/movies.

King Louis XVI inherited an almost bankrupt state from the corruption of his grandfather. He had terrible advisors, and further bankrupted France backing the American Revolution. He was indecisive, and admitted he was born into a position he didn’t want.

In the old movie, Marie Antoinette, the Swiss guards are guarding the royal family’s chambers as the mob breaks through. King Louis should have gotten his family out of France, even if he wanted to stay and not run from his position.

What came after the revolution was The Terror which killed 80.000 French people.

Versailles was always extravagant, and once she had her kids, she pretty much calmed down. Also, she was hated for being a foreigner, an Austrian. A lot of the lies and hate came from the nobility itself who refused to pay taxes, and collaberated with The Bourgeois.
