Palo Alto’s where I grew up and I still live on the Peninsula. That really is remarkable, “social justice” replaced by “crime” in red letters. Palo Altans are basically defenseless against the kind of violent lawlessness that has become commonplace just a 45 minute drive away. It’s a well-policed, law-abiding town, but I doubt hardly anyone has a gun in their home or even a competent guard dog. They’re certainly not carrying, and the minimum wage retail clerks are certainly not going to risk their lives trying to save fully insured merchandise.
There aren’t enough police to prevent or intercept very many crimes. Mostly the good citizens of Palo Alto will just have to hope that the crime wave recedes back to the north and east before it fundamentally changes their way of life.
It will change their way of life. It must. There is no resistance to the looting. Weakness breeds more looting.
45 minutes away? I thought East Palo Alto was much closer.
