45 minutes away? I thought East Palo Alto was much closer.
True, there are impoverished areas in East Palo Alto, Redwood City, San Jose . . . all much closer than 45 minutes, but from what I can tell, and obviously it’s just one view, what’s going on in Oakland right now is on a whole different level than any of those places. Large parts of Oakland are just lawless, ruled by street justice. Everywhere else in the Bay Area, except maybe a couple of square miles of downtown San Francisco, that kind of thing seems a lot more episodic.
