I really enjoyed reading his work back in the 90’s. Sorry to hear of his passing.
Nice tribute.
My Fave: “Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys.”
I had the chance to talk with him before an AEI luncheon. He just came up to me and my friend and started chatting. His “Bachelor Home Companion” was hilarious. When he stuck to politics and the human condition he was right on. When it came to evonomics, not so much. RIP.
“Everybody wants to save the world but nobody wants to help mom with the dishes.”
This is a pithy precursor to Jordan Peterson’s “12 rules” theory, that people who want to change the world are often running from personal problems that they can’t or won’t address.
Everyone should read “Foreigners Around The World”, a truly multicultural 1976 National Lampoon article by PJ O’Rourke (RIP). After reading this as a 17 year-old, I woke up to the fact that MAD Magazine wasn’t the only great American humor magazine for adults.
I loved his satires.
