Early in the pandemic (April 2020), one of the large Giant Eagle stores on the east side of Pittsburgh (our local Kroger affiliate) went to on-line order pick-up only.

It wasn't due to shoplifting but the fact that shoppers were going to the neighboring stores for various reasons including long waits to get an order pick-up at their local store, spreading the problem throughout the area.

Once this strategically located store went to pick-up only, the problem solved itself almost overnight. With no public in the store, the staff efficiency in picking orders for pick-up increased so much that the wait times of every store in the area plunged from several days to only a day or two.

Most certainly, shoplifting issues plunged as well. You've got to know management took notice and may be looking to convert more stores into pickup only. Especially those in sketchy neighborhoods.

I will have to take your word for diversity being our greatest strength. There is zero diversity where I live and it is peaceful, quiet, and safe.
