Let's cut some slack okay. It's not like it's using diesel for propulsion or anything(?). From another article:

The yacht is a sailing ship, with three massive masts providing its moving power. It's not clear if it has a backup diesel for propulsion, but probably does for electric power. Oceanco built the ship based on some of its previous sailing yacht designs, which it claims are powerful and ecologically friendly.

See, eco friendly. No doubt jeff bought carbon credits from algore to offset the NON eco friendly parts. Now, if we were to eliminate any and all components that were derived from anything petro, there might be a wooden dugout canoe left. Now, be quiet peasants.

I understand that most yacht owners never sail or motor in them. They get the crew to move it to a new port and then jet there to party on it with friends. It's like a moveable banquet room.

Is Bezos offsetting his private jet as well?

Curious that Gates also commissioned a $600M yacht last year, later cancelled. Methinks these types seek an escape to ride out wars, resets, viruses, etc.

Wouldn’t it be easier to just step the masts rather than disassemble a whole bridge?

Per an article I read this week, he has a support yacht that trails the main yacht. The support yacht has a helipad because the main yacht masts and sails made it impossible/dangerous to land on.

Is that his bugout plan? Maybe he’s going to live on it most of the time and save on taxes.

I’m torn. I love yachts and their beautiful lines, but think Bezos is a POS.

The Dutch yacht building industry is a big one in that country and their shipbuilding prowess goes back centuries. So they have some economic reasons to make accommodations to buyers of superyachts.

Not defending Bezos. Just pointing out that there are “extenuating” issues.

If he really wanted to save CO2 emissions, he’d have had the yacht built with nuclear powered propulsion...

Well all know most of the uber rich only pay lip service to global warming nonsense and this yacht proves it with Bezos.

bottom line, I think the boat is bad azz and a great use of 1 billion dollars. Nuts
