Well, my elderly father was on a vent for about 48 hours. There is no way he could have removed it himself, but he was old and very weak. COPD.

That’s why they have you restrained in the recovery room after surgery. I had open heart surgery where they cut through the sternum and the absolute worst part of the whole ordeal was waking up from the anesthesia with that friggin tube down my throat. If I wasn’t restrained I would have ripped that thing right out.
