SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A bill that would have created the nation's only government-funded universal health care system died in the California Assembly on Monday as Democrats could not gather enough support to bring it for a vote ahead of a legislative deadline.

The bill had to pass by midnight on Monday to have a chance at becoming law this year. Democrats needed 41 votes for that to happen, a threshold that did not seem impossible given that they control 56 of the 80 seats in the state Assembly and universal health care has long been a priority for the party.

Since the rats have supermajorities in both houses in CA this bill must really suck.

The bill was a massive job killer, and employers are the ones who contribute to the reelection war-chests of dems. Particularly with high tech companies whose high earning employees won’t settle for cheap state provided healthcare. Texas would have gained even more high tech jobs. Still, I’m a little (pleasantly) surprised.

Maybe because it includes all the MIVs in addition to the citizens...

How (and by who) will it be paid for?

Certainly, CA doesn’t have the money...

How much will it cost the taxpayers in the other 49 states?

Maybe the hundreds of billions CA just received (under the wondrous communist infrastructure law) from the taxpayers of other states will be used...

Just give the state back to Mexico and be done with it...

Next time they’ll just get it passed through a referendum. Citizens won’t be aware that they voted for a crappy socialized health care.

Support mostly from the California Nurses Association. Why? I guess they want to be on the government payroll. More money for less work.

“They’ll keep trying until they get it.”

That’s what democrats do. That’s what they always do. They never give up.

They might as well.

When it collapses (inevitable) the rest of the nation can see it as a lesson in how such policies do not work because they *cannot* work.

Unlike Gruesome, the other DemonicRats know not to pass the really stupid stuff months before an election.
They will pass it in December.
