Russell Brand has long been one of my favorite celebrities, and not just because he sings Can’t Fight This Feeling to Alec Baldwin in what is probably my guiltiest of pleasure movies (I KNOW IT’S TRASH LEAVE ME ALONE IN MY 80’S GLAM DUMPSTER). He has consistently been an advocate for respect, kindness, and the open exchange of ideas, and that’s remarkable enough among us common folk, let alone Hollywood celebrities.
A longtime advocate for the underdog and critic of the elites keeping said underdogs, well, under, Brand has recently found himself under fire for championing the wrong underdog and criticizing the wrong elites. His YouTube channel has been accused of “[stoking] anger and fear” and “conspiracy-mongering,” to hear Slate tell it— which tells me that he’s just pointing out all the shady sh*t our government has been doing since March 2020 (which is like, .000000000003% of the shady sh*t it’s ever done, but hey, his videos are usually only 10-20 minutes).
Here’s some samples of the “conspiracy-peddling” of which Brand is guilty:

Yup, that makes sense. If Slate hates it, it must be doing something right.
So, as promised, this post is to appreciate Russell Brand:
YAAAAAYYYYY RUSSELL!!! Consider yourself appreciated!!!!
There’s nothing conspiratorial about pointing out the shady, questionable, and/or straight up corrupt goings-on of our government, its officials, and the corporations that have them in their pockets. In fact, if conspiracy theories by definition stretch reality, then anyone still insisting that:
Fauci is honest,
The COVID-19 virus definitely occurred naturally,
There was no effort to silence dissenting opinions to the ‘Rona narrative is the conspiracy theorist.
The more voices willing to say so, the better.
YAY RUSSELL
Repeal the 19th Amendment.
Never heard of him.
I know who he is but no what he does (eg: comedian, actor etc.)
Fauci has done more to bring Liberals and Conservatives together than anything in History.
When the sheople in hte middle find out, they are going to sack DC.
I thought before he was your typical left-wing celebrity, but he’s clearly a free-thinker.
‘There’s nothing conspiratorial about pointing out the shady, questionable, and/or straight up corrupt goings-on of our government, its officials, and the corporations that have them in their pockets.’
True!!!
I will pay better attention to him now.
I thought he was another Howard Stern-type guy.
Howard Stern is, and has always been, a narcissistic blowhard. He used to be edgy. But now he is just another Hollyweird prog.
Russell Brand is more of an anti-corporate, anti-capitalist intellectual. His videos are very well researched, scripted and performed. He comes across very likeable.
Here is a good one he did on Hillary: https://youtu.be/GWiXR92mA7g
Voice of Dr. Nefario in the Despicable Me series.
Thanks for making me smarter.
Russell Brand? really? what a fake little toot. But, whatever.
Russel Brand has a long leftist history. I don’t know if he has turned around or not but it does happen sometimes. John Stossel is a great example of that. And so is Clerance Thomas.
Me too! Guess I thought wrong.
There’s been quite a few sensible conservative voices who were crazy lefties long ago. Dr Ben Carson also admitted to having radical views. Another one, Leo Terrell, who until a few years ago was famous for abruptly walking off in a rage in the middle of interviews with Sean Hannity. Since then he changed his thinking on many issues Hannity refers to him as Leo 2.0🙂
We live and learn.
Churchill mentioned something about this.
I listen to Russ every once in a while. He has some synapsis’ firing and a broad lexicon. Still don’t know exactly where the man stands. But libertarians and most conservatives could stomach much of his commentary.
“Still don’t know exactly where the man stands.”
From what I have derived from his videos he is anti-corporate, anti-capitalist and anti-globalist. Outside of that, he is hard to pin down politically on a linear spectrum.
But he is also very open-minded and is willing to give audience to alternative opinions. He encourages open discussion, which is something the Left just can’t tolerate. I find his videos provide an interesting and entertaining perspective on current events.
Agree
Yes: The Progressives (Communists) never cared about the rights of individual women, since they are, after all, collectivists rather than individualists; they cared that, as a collective, women vote left of men, and are the single largest voting bloc.
