MKS range position with Barnaul Ammunition Shot Show 2022

U.S.A.-(AmmoLand.com)-– At the Industry Day at the Range, Shot Show 2022, I was able to talk with Charles Brown, President of MKS Supply. Their position on the firing line was on the West end of the range positions.

There were several cases of Barnaul ammunition on display. As Russian ammunition has been sanctioned by the Biden administration, Mr. Brown was asked about the effect on his ability to supply ammunition to the American market.

The company is required to submit Form 6’s to import ammunition. The forms are submitted long in advance. There is a significant pipeline of ammunition continually being imported into the United States.

The Biden administration’s sanctions on the importation of Russian ammunition did not revoke any of the Form 6 applications that had already been approved. They became effective on September 7, 2021. They will continue in effect for 12 months, to be re-evaluated in late August or early September 2022, which will be shortly before the mid-term elections in November of 2022.

The sanctions stopped approval of the Form 6 applications which were not approved when the Biden sanctions were put in place.

Approved Form 6 applications can be used for two years from the date of approval. Thus, from the date of the Biden administration sanctions, imports will continue for about two years.

This would be a money-making opportunity for the Russians. Ship all their older ammo to the US, make money, use the money to make new stockpile of ammo.

I just recently found out that steel-cased ammunition for the AK-47 rifles (7.62 x 39) is preferred ammunition as the rifle cycles and ejects the steel cases better than it does brass cases. The Russian ammo is good stuff for AK’s.

Barnaul also makes good 9mm Mak ammunition too, although I haven’t been able to find any lately. I have a stash of Prvi Partizan (Serbian) and I reload.

Good thing I got a few cases of Golden Tiger 7.62x39 in between the last two shortages.

I have some of their 10mm 180 gr ammo. Nice range ammo to feed my pistols. I use the Sig V-Crown for carry, Prvi for practice.

My grandson fired an old paper hulled 12ga shell the other day. Only the brass head was ejected, the paper had turned to dust and went out with the shot.

All that engineering to develop a case less cartridge when we had the technology all along. Just needed proper aging.

Sig was one of the few premium JHP makers to make their bullets available as components lately. I reload V-Crowns in 9mm Luger, and also have a small stash of factory Federal HSTs.

I haven’t found a 9x18mm Mak JHP that will penetrate and open up at the same time. FMJs are what I use if I want to get historical and carry one of my guns in that caliber.

There are some suppliers who source their ammo from former Warsaw pact countries other than Russia. I believe Red army standard gets some from Romania, Czechia, etc.
