“He did a post-apocalyptic movie called “The Book of Eli”

Outstanding movie with an unexpected ending.

The story about Larry.

I was visiting a large city and went to a chain store for supplies. One item in particular, was something that a tall, well-built black gentleman was also considering. (I am white.)

The gentleman’s attire was very apparent - strong gang ties - what might convince a lot of people to steer clear. But there he was, and I, both looking for a certain product.

I mentioned that the same kind of product might be in another area of the store. He thanked me. But in addition, I could tell that he was deeply troubled; so I inquired.

His mother had developed COVID-19. She lived in a very run-down (and I mean bad in many ways) home and was not very ambulatory(sp? / usage?). His sisters were arguing with him, re mother’s care. He was so depressed, that he could barely get himself out of bed that morning; he had also called his mother for help - her wisdom in that regard. And, he had been praying for help from Jesus, from God. His mother helped him with that.

Turns out, that a few years ago, Larry had turned to Jesus for help, trying to get away from his life of trouble and his causing trouble. He had taken the hard road.

And, there we were, looking at a product on the store shelf.

And, he was actually there. Not “the man” of his street cred’s; instead, just Larry, an American man who loves his greater family members.

I had the pleasure of getting to know some things about Larry that portion of the day. It was wonderful, to actually know Larry without all the cultural static.

His turn toward Jesus, a few years ago? Larry had stumbled upon a guy whom Larry had known when they were kids -— and the guy was also back then, trouble. But, by a few years ago, his old friend had (prior to this newer meeting in their lives) become a local pastor for a church. That pastor, had helped Larry a lot.

All I did, was listen and some times offer a bit of positive support for when he mentioned that, in my own words: dared to stand up.

Larry asked me, if he could say a prayer for the both of us? Yes. That fellow is amazing, when he is simply, Larry.

I had The Pelican Brief on my list.
A good movie I realize I haven’t watched in a while. Must watch it again.

Any time I see that a movie has Denzel in it, I’m almost assured that it’s going to be great movie.

A sleeper huh.
I like those kinds of movies. There’s usually a great story and acting in those. I’ll move it up my “to watch” list.

A world in which those largely lacking power are increasingly subjugated by the powerful calls for more Equalizer movies.
