Looks like the cop screwed up big time. What the F was going through his mind??
What was his other hand doing?
Arrest all of the truckers because they drive with one hand while shifting. Anyone that learned to drive with a Manual transmission tends to drive with their left hand only while there other rests on the stick shift.
Did the cop get out and issue a ticket for stepping out in front of him?
What’s the crime here? He was talking on the radio. He was wearing a hat also. I heard his siren, flashing lights I assume were on. Cops speed all the time.
Driving with one hand?
Do people actually drive with TWO hands?
Why?
Lights on and siren going. They were on a call.
It’s not like he was recklessly speeding to get to Dunkin Donuts before they closed as the headline implies.
An unfortunate situation all the way around.
I wonder if the pedestrian even noticed the police car or heard the sirens.
It’s tragic, but lights and sirens on going to a violent incident means the cop will most likely not be charged. I have no idea why driving with one hand even enters the conversation here. People are really reaching to make cops look bad these days.
Although they are mostly younger, way too many pedestrians these days think they have a force field of kryptonite around them when crossing the street. They don’t even look. I’d give a $500 ticket to those that push the pedestrian light and then cross before it even comes on.
Police Officers learn to drive and use the radio which is
located to the right of the driver. It’s not unusual , at all.
What is odd is how you could see an approaching Police car with emergency lights on and still step out into the roadway.
Police and Fire in emergency situations must still operate their vehicles in a safe manner. Things happen that are out of their control but if this LEO was following department protocols, which are also reviewed by the City’s insurance carrier, then this will be a civil matter.
I was a City Manager at one time during my career and have seen the Police do some of the dumbest things because they believe that when they tun on their lights and sirens it gives them an automatic pass to drive like maniacs.

On Nov. 23, 2007, Mitchell was responding to a traffic crash at more than 120 mph, emailing on his patrol car’s computer and talking to his girlfriend on his cellphone when his patrol car crossed the median on Interstate 64 near Illinois 158 and slammed into a car carrying Jessica and Kelli Uhl, who were 18 and 13.
Mitchell and his department first tried to blame the accident on Jessica Uhl.
