COVID panic, testing shortage in DC causes emergency rooms to beg people not to come to the hospital for a COVID test

"Two things are undoubtedly true in Washington, D.C.: 1. Many people are scared of the omicron wave, and 2. There are not nearly enough COVID tests to meet the demand. This combination has created a problem that may end up having deadly consequences: Emergency Rooms packed with patients who are there solely to get a COVID test.

According to the Washington Post, D.C. area hospitals are begging the public to stop. "Do not come to the hospital looking to get tested," a spokesman for the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center told the Post. The spokesperson said that the hospital currently has wait times as long as eight hours due to people who "frankly don't need to be there." ..."

So much for being ‘essential’. Refusal of service is right in line with nurses making TikTok dancing videos in my book. I have not forgotten those!

Why even get tested?

You’re sick or you’re not.

Hysteria.

England is experiencing a shortage of tests, too. As is most of Europe. Too many cases too fast.

hysteria indeed.

in Australia, people are lining up for up to six hours with hundreds of other people, clearly the perfect way to end up with a “positive” result.

end the testing; in fact, end the covid counting altogether.
it’s ridiculous.

I think if you get ‘proclaimed’ as ‘positive’....people think they have some status and can then ask for medication of some type. If you asked all these worry-folks about their vaccination business, they probably will all respond that they are totally vaccinated.

We have a had similar pleas in Cleveland. Hospitals telling people to NOT come to the ER. Go to the Urgicare first. Urgicares announced a few days ago that they are overrun.

Tests...what tests? None to be found anywhere.

>>Refusal of service

Testing for covid is not a function of an ER department. Go to a pharmacy.

It sounds like the growth in the number of reported new cases will start topping out based on how many tests are available, rather than because the spread of infection has slowed.

Looks like this week coming will see the percentage of actual infections that get reported break from what had been the norm (1 out of 4), due to testing capacity constraints. Maybe it has started already.

Omicron itself, being milder, might also change the ratio of reported/actual infections, if more of the infections are asymptomatic (as seems to be the case),

Pharmacies didn’t used to do testing. That’s where you go to pick up prescriptions and also non-prescription items.

The concept of those who have contracted COVID-19 seeking and obtaining early treatment with therapeutic medication is gaining purchase, but, unfortunately, this is happening JUST AS THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE HAS LOST ITS ABILITY TO DETERMINE, BY TESTING, WHO HAS COVID-19.

What a mess!

People have had the crap scared out of them about a dark deadly winter of disease and death. This has been sold by the government, media, hollywood and even many useful fools on this forum.

Sighing....

If early treatment is offered, testing makes good sense.

For example, from NYS...

https://www.health.ny.gov/diseases/communicable/influenza/seasonal/

Pay very special attention to the blue “Stop the Flu” section at the top of the web page.

Note the advice to “Ask your health care provider about a prescription antiviral”.

And yet God help you if try to get early treatment in NYS for CoupFlu.

Seems to me if you refuse to test people, abd deny early access to treatment, you increase the chances of anyone with virus developing complications.

Public health, my arse.

Too many have been conditioned that it’s necessary to test at every gathering, every sniffle and soon to be once a week, regardless of health. As with most crisis situations involving the left, it’s manufactured.

>>Pharmacies didn’t used to do testing.

‘used to do’ is the key phrase - most now do, and vaccines shots for many things (covid, flu, etc) are also now available at most major pharmacies and even supermarkets and walmart’s etc.

Many even have mini-health clinics now as well where you can get checkups, minor illness and injuries taken care of etc when you can’t (or don’t want to) wait for your primary care doctor to make an appt .
