My wife had a great-grandfather who died of the Spanish Influenze.

No vaccines available to the civilians.

A flu vaccine had not ever been isolated in 1918. Electron microscopy was in its infancy. There were no flu vaccines for anyone including the military during WWI.

There was an attempt to create a vaccine for the Spanish flu, but it failed. Sound familiar?

Was there a vaccine attempt during the Spanish flu of 1918-20? Did it succeed?
