Carlos Maldonado was delivering a specimen his physician wanted him to take to Cleveland Clinic’s Lutheran Hospital location on West 25th Street for testing on Saturday, December 18, 2021. When he arrived at 10:30 a.m. Maldonado learned the laboratory had closed two hours earlier due to a worker shortage.
The Lutheran Hospital employee who turned Maldonado away explained that only one person showed up for work though four were scheduled. The single employee who did arrive for work was sent back home. The normal Saturday workload was too much for one worker to handle....

Why do I have the sneaking suspicion that many Ohio nurses are off in some other state making really big bucks as travel nurses and that this other state has outlawed unvaxxed staff?
I’m thinking of a certain state that has bridge that is always for sale.
Not really...the janitors and lawn maintenance crew can fill in for the Doctors and nurses until things return to normal..../s
I’m going to have to accuse you of having common sense ... you would never last there at that institution.
It kind of depends on what more pressing lab tests needed to be done for people in greater need.
That one person may have been trying to save some lives by doing labwork triage.
Lab work to be sent off to China.
Thank you!! Just fearporn stuff.
That stinks.
I noticed a lot of signs here in Indiana for “snow plow drivers” this winter. Never before.
Why is that?
I assume it’s a combination of firing current unvaxxed drivers and inability to hire new ones with vax and CDL.
I worked about a decade in Cleveland in NICU, then went PRN and took travel positions while getting out of nursing and pursuing another career. The working conditions were terrible compared to the other places I went. I’m saving my comments about The Cleveland Clinic except to say, before they had a NICU, they kept their heart defect surgical babies and didn’t send them to us. We were not happy, knowing what kind of care of a surgical neonate requires. YMMV.
I just had a lot of routine blood work done in Coeur d’Alene, ID. There were a LOT of tests and a lot of blood vials. Results were back 24 hours later. No lab problems here.
OHIO PING!
Please let me know if you want on or off the Ohio Ping list.

Depending on what this person’s job is he may not be able to do work alone.
Some protocols may require more than one tech.
But most likely he is suspected of having been exposed to COVID.
I have been told that I am going to have to be off work until January 6 because I have been exposed to COVID.
As a Medical Technologists let me explain this situation.
The hospital may be open, but it can’t diagnose more than 87% of cases without us.
You can’t do surgeries without us. We are the ones who test the patients blood type and confirm what blood or blood products a patient would receive.
We analyze everything from urine, sweat, blood and cerebral spinal fluid. We are the ones who ID the microbes or viruses infecting your body. We also IDthe parasites. We are never mentioned by the lame stream media.
However, without us, your Doctor is just guessing.
We also type organs, determine whether you’re receiving therapeutic dosages of meds and more.
We are the ones that find the blood cancers.
So your hospital may be open, but without Medical Techs, your hospital is just putting on bandaids.
Bless you and yours.
And thank you for posting when you have somehow found the time.
Not good news. My son-in-law is driving down from Idaho to pick me up in Spokane in his big 4-door truck, take me back there for Christmas. I was going to drive up, usually do. But they say it’s going to be too snowy. A little snow doesn’t stop me.

Thank you.
