It’s called retirement.
As a 61 white guy who recently “retired”, I can assure you that getting another job is almost impossible.
Wow. Do you mind telling what line of work you are talking about?
I got so bored in retirement, I’m working full time again at 70.
Bide owns the blame 100% no amount of propaganda can change it.
Biden has been harvesting new cheap labor program with his illegal invasion but the BBB plan tanked big business not happy they want money back.
The only people, left watching CNN are the low info dolts who can’t be bothered to verify the crap that CNN spoon feeds them
I know here in Indiana, a huge percentage of the folks who work at Meijer (a grocery/superstore) are seniors. The guy who cuts my meat at the deli counter is so slow they have to check him for a pulse once per hour.
Wages are up a paltry 4% in 2021 indicating no labor shortage at all. Nothing to see here. Move along.
I went to an investment seminar 20 years ago and was told there would be a time coming when boomers would leave the workforce. As it happened, I was laid off in 2010 because Obama wanted to get the Gulf oil spill off the front pages. After I looked at my situation, I burned through my severance package, retired, and haven’t looked back. Besides tutoring a couple of millennial college students in programming (Fortran), that was it for me. Now I just play guitar for fun in a couple of senior bands and hang out here. Life is good.
It didn’t help things much when only a few years ago, businesses would NOT hire people over 50 years old. Yeah, so blame the boomers.
“50% of my new hires are older than 65.”
I expect so. They have the wherewithal to actually show up, both to interview and to scheduled hours.
@#$#$ CNN. I’ve broken my ass over the last 47 years of work, particularly over the last 10 and especially over the last two, and I’m retiring next year.
If I were to come out of retirement in the future and help the increasingly incompetent and definitely not self-motivated younger workers at companies, it will be very expensive - but probably worth it.
Article doesn’t lament a lack of workers, only the ages of those willing to show up.
“Boomers actually do hard work. Punks today, not so much.”
That’s REALLY the problem here. And, they actually SHOW UP, either in person OR remotely.
On second thought, maybe I shouldn’t retire right now - I wouldn’t want to make the Dems and Biden look bad.
Do I REALLY need a </s>?
As a 72y/o entrepreneur interfacing directly with the music industry, still quite active with partners in France, Italy, HongKong & South Korea.
No vax mandates here!!!
Depends on if it was leaving voluntarily, doesn’t it?
Many people are forced out before retirement age, as mr. mm was and he never re-entered the work force per se. He did start his own consulting business that gives us imcome.
“I know here in Indiana, a huge percentage of the folks who work at Meijer (a grocery/superstore) are seniors. The guy who cuts my meat at the deli counter is so slow they have to check him for a pulse once per hour.”
I knew three people (two men and a woman) who had good money saved for retirement(one was downright wealthy) but kept working anyway because they couldn’t stand their spouses! Fortunately, this will not be a motivating factor for me!
When I was middle aged my health-oriented first wife wanted me to exercise. I seriously considered getting a night job at a food store unloading trucks. If I’m going to “work”, I’m getting paid for it! But I fear that many of these older people you see working are doing it for financial reasons.
Where the heck is Fortran being used? I used that back in the mid-70’s
