I heard the gun he was using the hammer locks in place when you pull it back. So if you let it go, it can’t discharge the bullet. Yes, there are a lot of people who continue to spread that claim. It turns out that it is not necessarily true, and depends on which version of the gun was used. The earlier versions could indeed fire by releasing the hammer. The later versions could not.

Either way it’s a distraction. Baldwin pointed a weapon at something he allegedly didn’t intend to destroy.
