Pietta makes two types of revolvers of this style. One like an original Colt 1873, with a half cock to catch a hammer if the thumb slips, and one WITH A TRANSFER BAR in which the trigger must be pulled to make it shoot.

No, no, no.....this was a LEFT-handed gun.
It's easily proved whether or not Baldwin's gun was the one that was fired to kill the woman. And I think we would've heard about it already if the shot came from another gun.
Before all of this is over, some left wing gun control nut is going to say Baldwin should never have been given an AR-15 in the first place.
“The gun just fired itself!”
Just like that SUV drove itself into the crowd at the Christmas parade in Wisconsin per CNN.
Yea, sure. Liberals always blame the gun unless the shooter was white and the person shot was black.
" Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun while filming a scene in New Mexico on Thursday, causing the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza. The incident occurred on the set of “Rust,” an independent feature that was filming at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, a popular production location south of Santa Fe.
The Sheriff’s office said in a statement that Hutchins and Souza “were shot when a prop firearm was discharged by Alec Baldwin, 68, producer and actor.” The Santa Fe New Mexican reported that Baldwin was questioned by investigators, and was in tears.
“The Sheriff’s office is referring to this incident as a shooting investigation,” Sheriff’s spokesman Juan Rios said. “That detail will be addressed by detectives as they work their case.” The Sheriff’s office did say that the shooting occurred “during filming of a scene.”
Unless the hammer is accidentally released just before locking.
Happened to me a tad more than 60 years ago, with a then-old single barrel 12 ga hammer gun. Thumb slipped while bringing it up to shoot a squirrel in a tree.
Scarred the crap out of me and the squirrel.
7:26 PM PT -- "The Sheriff's Department has confirmed it was Baldwin who pulled the trigger during the gun accident. 42-year-old director of photography Halyna Hutchins tragically died from her injuries, and director Joel Souza is currently at a hospital getting treatment for his."
what if you only fan it half way will it hit the primer hard enough to go off
I shot the Director, but I didn’t pull the trigger.
I am pretty sure there is a whole room full of people, including someone Alex Baldwin shot, who will testify to the contrary.
He cocked the pistol. He pulled the trigger. That is on his head.
We still need to find out how the live cartridge got in the chamber.
Clearly this is one of those guns that wanders around on its own shooting people. I hear about them all the time from the media.
"As we've reported, Alec and co. were rehearsing for a shoot-out scene inside a church. Alec, the lead, was using a .45 Colt revolver. Baldwin reportedly said, "So, I guess I'm gonna take this out, pull it out and go, 'Bang!'" -- at which point, he actually carried out the gesture and fired. The gun -- which assistant director Dave Halls had just declared was "cold" before handing it to Alec -- was supposed to be loaded with nothing but dummy rounds ... but at least one real bullet was inside."
My dislike of Alex Baldwin makes me want to believe he is lying, but you probably on the right track here.
That’s the only reason I can think of why he would say this when there a room full of people who saw something different.
But it takes minimal trigger pressure, right? I was looking for ways he could have fired the gun without completely depressing the trigger.
I have never fanned a trigger but the trigger can be slightly depressed (not enough to fire) and then the hammer can be fanned, is that correct?
Thanks.
Does not fanning a SSA revolver require holding the trigger down the whole time? Otherwise, either the sear or the “half-cock notch” will catch the hammer.
Baldwin’s lawyers have cooked up a defense based on creating reasonable doubt that the firearm malfunctioned. A gullible jury might buy it (it would piss me off if I was on the jury). The prosecution needs to have the firearm examined and tested by an expert gunsmith to eliminate that possibility. Baldwin will sink to any depth, and Stephanopoulos too.
I’ve never fanned, someone else will have to speak. I read that a trigger can be slightly depressed and then the hammer can be fanned. Baldwin may have slight depressed the trigger and then fanned the hammer somehow. Mostly likely he cocked and negligently fired, and he and his lawyer are trying to cloud the entire issue.
Need someone in the know to comment on that.
