How to Eliminate ‘Turkey Neck’ Without Surgery

The roasted turkey featured on your dining room table may not be the only one with turkey neck this holiday. With Thanksgiving gatherings right around the corner, many of us will wear scarves or turtleneck sweaters to conceal the unsightly sagging under our chins.

We refer to this as “turkey neck” because as we age, neck muscles begin to weaken and the loose skin can become droopy and wrinkled, drawing unflattering comparisons to the neck of a turkey. Age and sun exposure are the main causes of sagging skin, according to Scripps.org, but it also has a genetic component.

While surgical procedures can correct the condition, there are non-invasive ways to improve the appearance of turkey neck. Dr. Michael Somenek, a board-certified facial plastic surgeon from Washington, D.C., explains how these procedures work.

Does the same principle apply for a bearded lady?

(For either old-style or new-fangled bearded lady, that is?)

Louisiana politician Huey Long used to deride the Mayor of New Orleans, an enemy, as “Turkey Neck” Wamsley, a appelation that every picture of the man bore out. Decades later, his descendants were still rankled about it.

Scariest two minutes of life was crossing the old Huey P Long bridge.

I remember that infernal bridge. Even at its best, the Huey P. Long offered a nerve-wracking transit. For novice drivers though like I was when I attended Tulane University, it was as if psychotic sadists had been given the chance to make a bridge: poorly designed approaches, a steep slope, narrow lanes, crazy drivers, heavy traffic, and inadequate signage made the Huey P. Long a nightmare.

Most memorably, my first transit was when I got talked into driving a student reporter friend across the bridge in the wee hours on a Friday morning so that he could report on a massive refinery fire across the river. The trip back a few hours later then had to be made during rush hour, with the windshield of my car hazy with goo from the refinery fire.
