Makes me think of Al Gore saying “No controlling legal authority”...
TBH, it will go on forever because there’s no way that 50%+1 of the House and Senate would be willing to pass legislation to do what needs to be done to defang them. (The DOJ/Fibbies likely have kompromat on literally every member that would magically leak to all the news if anybody even whispered such a thing)
Sorry, but that’s just the way it is.
Gee, we had a President who was trying to clean up the mess at the DOJ. But the douche nozzles at Red State didn’t like him.
Mean tweets or something like that.

The FBI budget is supposedly around 9 billion with 35,000 or so employees they deign to admit having. Can’t really see anything happening to it at this point. That’s a 9 billion dollar dug in tick that knows a bunch of dirty laundry with lots of folks willing to go to the mat to keep it dug in and sucking. It was probably too late 50+ years ago to do anything about any of the alphabet agencies, which basically function as guardians of the bureaucratic establishment empire in DC in order to keep themselves fed.
It’s hard for me to picture any modern politician getting rid of any alphabet agency or even reducing their budgets in the era of the 24 news cycle.
Freegards
The DOJ and FBI need a Roman-style decimation.
We HAD the man that could make and enforce changes.
We'll just have to be patient.
The secret to the FBI’s success is, like Hoover, they have dirt or are capable of creating dirt on anyone who threatens them.
I agree with knarf. What is a guy like me supposed to do? Does he expect people to storm the capitol or something? Does he expect us to throw bricks through store windows? I suppose he thinks he is “doing something” with this writing.
They are the law.
When the people your supposed to report the crimes to are the criminals you are well and truly F’d.
The first time I became aware of this on a large scale was when it was revealed how Clinton used the state police to intimidate and procure women that he selected while Attorney General and then Governor of Arkansas. He carried those procedures with him to D.C.
If you see something, say nothing.
Don't talk to the authorities. Don't snitch to the authorities. Report nothing to the authorities. The authorities are not your friend.
That's how it is in Third World banana republics. That's how it was in East European Communism.
It's sad we've sunk to this level. But this too will pass. Over time, the FBI, the police, the government, will lose all legitimacy and respect. They will be viewed with the same contempt and quiet hatred as were the East European Communist regimes.
Eventually, there will be a spark. Maybe in another generation. Maybe in two or three generations. A small incident that will explode into a popular rebellion, and the whole regime will come tumbling down within a few weeks.
As many times as they want.
We will do nothing.
As many times as they want.
We will do nothing.

I agree, the “system” of oversight and funding will not correct. The government is in cahoots, and Congress is not willing to do the dirty work it is supposed to do. Of course the agencies will run amok, and of course there will be an occassional stern letter and blockbuster report. The Church Committee exposed snooping abuses and worse - those abuses persist, and the Senate created a permanent select committe to insure that future abuses would be buried.
It is proper that there be tension between the people and the government. That is natural order. The government is like fire, and right now it is unchecked and causing ruin.
We are a banana republic.
I am sure that the Chinese under Mao, the Cambodians under Pol Pot, the Germans under Hitler and the Russians and East Germans asked the same thing, but too late.
Perhaps we are asking early enough. The question is: has our FBI gone full Stasi yet?
