Absolutely agree with your post. I’ve been saying that forever. Beautiful (naturally, we often forget in this age of melted Tupperware faces that women were naturally beautiful back in the day) & a killer powerhouse of a voice!

I just listened to the version you recommended—I _much_ prefer the Jefferson Airplane version—I guess all our tastes are different.
Truly haunting and memorable song—grabbed me the first time I heard it, and still grabs me today.
The only other song of that era that is in its league was the equally amazing Bob Dylan/Jimmy Hendrix versions of All Along The Watchtower.

JA struck gold when they replaced Signe Toly Anderson with Gracie Slick. Though drummer Skip Spence had also been replaced by Spencer Dryden, when they got Gracie they found their sound.

Not a big fan of Jefferson Airplane, but Slick hit it out of the park with ‘White Rabbit’, both writing it and singing it. Just a classic rock song.

Malice in Wonderland (Mongrel Rabbit)
Parody of White Rabbit song
by Jefferson Airplane
The right view offers freedom,
The left view makes you crawl
The liberties our fathers fought for
Don't get any time at all
"We the People"
Use to stand so tall
When you ignore the Constitution
And you think it's going to fall
Tell 'em a hookah smoking Kenyan
Thinks its just some old mens scrawl,
Ask Obama,
How we got so small
When the nations who were allies
Get up and tell you where to go
You've heard so much wokey hogwash
That your mind is moving slow
Ask help from Clinton
As if she'd know
When his illogic and distortions
Prove that Schumer's off his meds
While Pelosi's still talking nonsence
And Biden obviously is brain dead
Remember what Alinsky said:
Steal their bread
Steal their bread
Steal their bread

That song does hit her sweet spot. I guess it is a matter of taste, as I HATE the scratchy voice, especially on women. My favorites have unusually clear but feminine voices: Patsy Cline, Rosemary Clooney, Connie Francis, Vera Lynn, etc.
Also never got into the '60s faux folk thing. Janis Joplin didn't fall cleanly into that category, but "Bobby McGee" kind of dances on the edge of it.
