Due to reactogenicity observed in the initial 4/16 participants assigned to the 30 µg dose
level group after they received both doses of BNT162b2 (Section 3.4.1), an Internal Review Committee decision was made for the remaining 12/16 participants assigned to the 30 µg dose level group to receive
the second dose based upon selection of the dose-level for Phase 2/3 ie, 10 µg. These
subjects will not be discussed further. END QUOTE

If you need a translation, Pfizer spells out what this means in Section 3.4.1: “Systemic events at the
30-µg dose level were deemed unacceptable, leading to the discontinuation of this dose level.” END QUOTE

Coldeye editorial comment: I translate “were deemed unacceptable” to mean “it was so obvious this dose was hurting children, that we changed the protocol mid trial.” I have no problem with any of this. How do we find out what dose to give? One way is to find out how much hurts people and back down from there. Sorry, it’s hard to avoid this kind of bracketing when you’re in a hurry.

Here’s what I object to. The kid trial makes VERY clear that 30 micro is too much. However, in adults, Pfizer gives 30 micro to adults who weigh 300 pounds and adults who weigh 85 pounds. In light of the kid trial, don’t you think Pfizer should be asked to re examine the 30 micro dose in 85 pound adults?

Here is why Pfizer wants an Emergency Use Authorization for kids 5 to 12
(from FDA briefing document page 7):

Based on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data, among children 5 to
<12 years of age there have been approximately 1.8 million confirmed and reported
COVID-19 cases and 143 COVID-19-related deaths in the US through 14 October 2021. In
this same age group, there have been 8622 COVID-19 related hospitalizations through

Coldeye commentary: Pfizer has not described an emergency.

For all pediatric hospital admissions, the average length of stay is only 2 or 3 days. (CDC, Delahoy)

Virtually all of the deaths involve kids with very serious co morbidities.

THIS IS NOT AN EMERGENCY.

Using the CDC’s own excess deaths data, you can look at deaths under 25 for the past five years AND YOU CANNOT IDENTIFY YEARS 2020 and 2021. For under age 25, 2020 and 2021 are INDISTINGUISHABLE from years before covid. If you want to see what an EMERGENCY looks like, look at CDC excess deaths data for age 85 and older.
