Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has been one of the left’s favorite targets, especially amid the ongoing COVID-19 saga. Democrats and the activist media have pilloried the governor for refusing to enact the same type of onerous and draconian restrictions that other states have imposed on their residents. They claimed he was responsible for getting Floridians killed, while paying very little attention to former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who actually did get people killed through his COVID policy.
However, the latest data shows that DeSantis’ approach to the pandemic isn’t as deadly as the left hoped argued. According to a chart published by The New York Times, Florida’s rate of COVID-19 infections is far lower than even the states that have embraced mask and vaccine mandates, and other measures.
The chart shows that Florida’s 14-day rate of COVID cases dropped by 48%. The Sunshine state’s case rate per 100,000 was 13. This means Florida had the third-lowest rate of infections last week — coming in just behind Connecticut and Hawaii, which both have 11 cases per 100,000.
According to Click Orlando, this was the fifth week in which cases declined. WDW News Today reported that on Wednesday, the state “reported 2,505 new cases of COVID-19, making the 7-day average below 3,000 cases for the first time since July 7” and that “the positivity rate has been declining since mid-August.”
During the summer months, COVID rates and hospitalizations surged in Florida. Democrats took this as an opportunity to attack DeSantis. However, rates also rose in almost every other state. While addressing an audience in August, DeSantis said:
What we’re going to see is that — you’re already starting to see — but because you don’t have the herd immunity through the vaccinations, you’re going to start to see winter and fall waves in the Northern states. We have a summer season, but you’re going to see that, and so I think that that’s something that should be stressed more and more.
In September, the governor announced that he obtained more doses of crucial monoclonal antibody treatments for COVID patients despite the fact that President Joe Biden had cut the supply to Florida. “We should be doing everything we can to get patients monoclonal antibody treatments, not cutting allocations of treatment like the Biden administration has done,” he said.
Many viewed the president’s actions as being politically motivated. High-profile leftists have downplayed the efficacy of monoclonal antibodies, along with every other potential remedy that is not the vaccine.
Florida’s COVID rates have fluctuated just like most other states. But despite the left’s claims that DeSantis’ refusal to enact strict measures ostensibly to combat the spread of the virus, it seems clear this has not had a drastic impact on the numbers compared to other states.
“The Latest COVID-19 Data Shows the Left Got It Dead Wrong About Florida and Gov. DeSantis”
Ah, but the MSM, Facebook, etc will not report that.
Yet, they keep pushing forward, even harder, with their d@$% mandates.
We can see clearly, their “$cience”.
The “Covid 19” A/K/A Chinese Flu data was cot correct from day one. But the fools could not discern the difference. Therefore it worked as the population control people desired it to work. It is still working as they designed it to.
The CDC, reporting out data received by the National Center for Health Statistics, indicates that there were 10,219 deaths *involving COVID in the state of Florida in August 2021, an increase of 113% compared to August 2020 (i.e., when some 4,787 deaths involving COVID were reported).
For September 2021, the CDC reports that there were 7,532 deaths involving COVID in Florida, an increase of 272% compared to September 2020 (i.e., when there were 2,023 such deaths).
It turns out that August 2021 was the worst month, in terms of deaths involving COVID, in Florida since the beginning of pandemic, surpassing the previous worst month, January 2021 (when there were 5,010 such deaths). The 7,532 deaths last month (i.e., September 2021) now marks it as the second worst month in Florida, after August 2021.
It seems only fair to assess Florida's response to the pandemic these past few months in light of these additional data. For that matter, it seems fair to assess the performance of the vaccines in light of these data as well. Obviously, in contrast to August and September of 2021, no one had been vaccinated in August and September of 2020.
_________
*The CDC defines "deaths involving COVID" in these terms: "Deaths with confirmed or presumed COVID-19, coded to ICD–10 code U07.1."
It’s not quite this good. Unlike other states, Florida does not tabulate all of the numbers each day. This is not a horrible conspiratorial thing in either direction. The CDC’s excess deaths tabulation has the same issue.
A given day in Florida might say 3 deaths, but a week or two later the total for that day will be higher.
The summer surge is improving in all southern states, including FL, but there is nothing special going on there. And we have seen surges improve before. Last spring, May 2020, March 2021, and the current decline.

Thanks for the ping.
They got it wrong all over. The good news is that today we have about the same case count as ONE YEAR AGO. The big difference is one year ago case counts were rising, today they are in a significant decline pattern; https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#trends_dailycases
