It’s a perfect storm. Bad energy policy meets bad monetary policy meets bad spending policies.
At this point only God can help us.
How does this happen?

Freeze us in the dark, or starve us to death. It doesn’t matter to them.
The Final Solution is catastrophic population reduction.
I went to the store yesterday and bought two pounds of hamburger. I also bought a CD radio.
The hamburger cost half what the radio cost! Considering that hamburger is the bottom line of beef products I choked at the cost!
In other news, the hamburger cost twice what a good bottle of wine would cost, and the same price as a bottle of whiskey, and what two six packs of beer would cost!
You ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
In the local food mart yesterday, all they had was their store brand bacon and some terrible Oscar meyer stuff. I can start seeing the lack of quality products on the shelves.
I’m still working on growing more of my own stuff. I recently ordered a bunch of different varieties of winter wheat, planning to test them and see if any do well here. My first attempt at growing winter wheat did not work out well, and at least part of that was due to the variety I chose.
While I was at it, I also grabbed a few Lofthouse varieties. He specializes in developing plants that are highly adaptable, disease-resistant, pest-resistant, easy to harvest, and that taste good besides. Some of the varieties I ordered I’ll probably keep as-is, but others I’ll use to try and breed better versions of what I already have. For example, I absolutely love the flavor and cooking qualities of Magic Manna flour corn, but I lose more than 90% of my crop to pests and diseases no matter how much I try to pamper them. So, Harmony corn, which is resistant not only to diseases but to rodents and raccoons as well, is definitely intriguing! If anyone reading this is having trouble getting a decent crop of anything, see if there’s a Lofthouse variety of that vegetable. He’s pretty awesome. His seeds are sold through the Experimental Farm Network, which is awesome in itself! Be aware that their inventory changes constantly, so if you see something you want, grab it while you can. https://www.experimentalfarmnetwork.org/
I’ve also been planting more fruit trees and berry bushes every year. My chickens are keeping us well stocked with eggs. And, thanks to some tips from other FReepers, I now have a good hunting crossbow for harvesting meat. I’m not quite to the point of total self-sufficiency, but I keep getting closer.
Times are going to be hard. Anyone who can possibly grow a garden, do so.
THE most regressive tax is unleashed by an administration which claims to care about the poor. Those poor SOBS have been sacrificed on the altar of progressive politics.
Sucks to be them but they requested this.
