Dumbing down… and rising up?

There is no question, that, taken as a whole, our society is getting dumber. Recent IQ measurements support that assertion. It is a remarkably damning indictment of our public school system and current culture that the more years of schooling one has and the more information we have access to, the less actual knowledge and wisdom one tends to possess. To paraphrase something Mark Steyn once observed, eighth grade Americans built the most successful country the world has ever known, and eighteenth grade Americans may well destroy it.

The Founders were worried about “The tyranny of the majority.” Yet today the majority is allowing tyranny by the minority/minorities. Any tyranny is bad, but this is doubly so…and bizarre.

Today’s elites purport to believe in “gender fluidity,” as if one could routinely swap out one’s own gametes and genitalia with a blink and a nod, perhaps in “I Dream of Jeannie” fashion.

Marxist ideology has taken over the American education system. A clean sweep of progressive teaching methods and curriculums is the only answer to get deliberate dumbing down to rise again.

I didn't need measurements on the DART train yesterday with a group of about 6 twenty-something POCs.

Listening to their "conversation" consisting of yelling at each other about drugs and gangs and the lone female in the group running to the front of the car for 5 seconds of twerking, my primary thought is "they are allowed to vote?"

Nope, I didn't need any "measurements" at all.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

I thought your IQ was basically your IQ. Not so much what you know but your ability to know. Which grows moderately as a child then levels off at maturity.

Maybe I’m wrong. Just seemed odd to use IQ test scores as supporting evidence.

We ARE getting dumber. Election results and TV sitcoms support that assertion.

Part of IQ is innate, determined by your genes. Part of it is largely formed in early childhood experiences.

Mothers who constantly engage their infants in conversation, touching, and games promote development of the child's ability to learn and interact.

Mothers who ignore babies so they can watch TV, dump them in a day care ASAP to get back to their job, and do little more than meet their basic physical needs often wind up with offspring in the bottom half of average.

Unfortunately, the latter group tends to define our population.

Sometimes innate ability or personality can overcome neglect, but on average it is a huge driver of intelligence.

I think you are right: Public schools probably don't have much to do with lowering IQ. Their main contribution to society is ignorance.

While not universally true (some women actually believe that it more fun to work than to raise your children) many of our child abandonment issues stem from excessive taxation.

Were the income/taxing levels returned to something resembling common sense, we would probably see more stay-at-home moms.

It has taken a buttload of indoctrination to pollute our minds to this point, much of it from the schools.

Marxists are not likely to give us back our educational system without force.

Environmental factors only account for about a 5 point difference, the rest is heritable/innate. The ability to learn, not the sum of knowledge.
