But just like California, the people keep electing the scumbags. I wonder if when Reagan bombed Libya if France had allowed the F-111 flyover if maybe all the planes would have made it home? Or the immortal words of Norman:

Norman Schwarzkopf quote: Going to war without France is like going hunting without...

Why would Australia base subs there? I would have thought Perth in Western Australia or Darwin in the Northern territories would be more like;y...

Regardless of where the Australian subs are 'homeported' they will be operating out of Australia and that will naturally pull Australia into building support facilities compatible with US submarines. I think that's the underlying logic of this deal.

Not sure I agree with Schwarzkopf. The French certainly came through for us in the 1700s.

NiCad batteries. The French had developed the process for making them. One of my best friends was a mechanical engineer, B-24 Bombardier/Navigator among many other things.

He worked for a well known battery company in the USA.

He went to France and was given a tour of the battery plant.

During the tour, he overheard several snide remarks (in French) about the dumb Americans who would never be able to understand the process.

The French company hadn't bothered to file for a USA patent due to their belief.

At his departure meeting, Ernie thanked them for their tour, in perfect French.

He died a couple of years ago at 98 years old.

He had a photographic memory.

In a short time, NiCads were being made and sold in the USA, with no royalties to the French.

The Revolution wiped out the political and religious leadership of France and Napolean’s constant wars wiped out a significant percentage of the younger generation. The France of 1780 was not the France of 1815. For good or ill, they have never been the same country since.

Just as Britain was never the same after WWI.
