Two days before the start of The Big E, the Board of Health will hold a hearing on an indoor mask requirement in public places to combat the spread of COVID-19.
The proposed regulations would take effect on Friday, Sept. 17, the first day of New England’s largest state fair, and require face coverings in all indoor public places, as well as private places open to the public, regardless of vaccination status for those over the age of 2 years. Dr. Heather Sankey, the board’s chair, said at a special meeting of the board on Aug. 25 that she feared the Sept. 17–Oct. 3 fair could become a super spreader event.
“It could hurt our town in a big way. I’m very worried about this,” Sankey told board members.
