Grew up in San Diego in the 60s and 70s. I know exactly what you mean.
That would be SHIT HOLE......F all of the Rats.
“Grew up in San Diego in the 60s and 70s. I know exactly what you mean.”
My dad used to take us down to SD (Mission Bay) every year for a little R & R. Loved it! Actually my favorite part of CA. I’m sure San Diego is as screwed up now (almost) as LA.
“That would be SHIT HOLE......F all of the Rats.”
Yeah. Don’t think that would get past the censors :)
My cousin grew up outside Pittsburgh in a lower middle class, dirty steel mill section. It was grungy as heck.
In the late 70’s he was stationed out in Ca while in the Air Force.
He said he thought he went to a different planet it was so nice.
He was died in the wool yinzer though and ended back up at the ‘berg.
I lived in California during the seventies of Jerry Brown and Rose Bird. It was anything but paradise. Gaslines and high crime being the worst parts, and I mean really high crime. Serial killers galore...
The Hillside Stranglers, The Golden State Killer was still the East Side Rapist in Sacramento, The Freeway Killer, Bittaker and Norris, with the Night Stalker still to come. It was a zoo.
One night I ran down a police car because a woman was being assaulted in front of an apartment complex. Another time the bad guys had a car overturned in the middle of a two lane highway to set a trap we narrowly evaded. Another time my wife got dirty breather phone calls telling her they knew I was at work. They broke into my car the first weekend I was there.
Rose Bird said rape wasn’t bodily harm. The legislature was moonbat crazy. No punishment at all for criminals. Even Patty Hearst wasn’t safe. The wife being five minutes late getting back from the market brought terrible anxiety.
We said if we ever escaped that awful place, we wouldn’t be back. Never regretted it. I don’t know about this paradise you guys saw. I hated the place.
The Democrats needed votes and the rich needed fewer of “those other people” on their roads and beaches.
This is how to achieve those goals.

My dad started in PA, went to CA, and never moved back!
My parents intended to move to Huntington Beach in 1953, when Dad got out of the service in Montana, since one of his medical school classmates had told him how great it was in California. My parents took a few weeks to sightsee on the way, though, and settled in Portland instead.

Wow, with that and all else you described, where the hell did you live? :)
Okay, I would at least say CA was a paradise then COMPARED TO now!

Not sure what you mean by “fewer of those people.” Because now they got one hell of a lot more of “those people” they didn’t want.

Portland? Spent 3 weeks there decades ago. It rained every day. No thanks.
I was just going to say the same thing I live in Mexifornia and you would NEVER KNOW you were in the United States walking the streets here or going to a grocery store!!
What part of the state were you in?
To a kid, that was just how things were. The sun actually did come out fairly often.
Supposedly everyone is leaving CA but I don’t see it in reduced traffic at all.
I was born on the east side of LA County during Truman’s presidency and grew up there, and life in my neighborhood was very similar.
As the author was from SFV, he had to have noticed the massive immigration of liberals from the northeast in the 1970’s, New York in particular. You remember, a NY deli suddenly every other block on Ventura Blvd almost overnight?
Being as they are fixated on political power, they quickly took over the state legislature.
Where do you think Barbara Boxer (spit) came from?
Illegals are only part of the answer. You have to see the underlying degradation allowed by the new NE liberal voting block.
