“Summer’s lease hath all too short a date.” – William Shakespeare
She packs her things quietly. Despite having strewn little hints and clues of her intent throughout the long hot days and nights she catches you off guard when you see her astride the window, awaiting a strong wind to carry her aloft for points south.
And while it feels like betrayal it is simply the fulfillment of her promise: to nurture, warm and fortify you well enough for what lies ahead. So you can thrive while she’s gone and endure well enough until such time as she returns with all her heat and light and bounty.
So get ready, she’s leaving; the fields will soon be empty soon. But we’ll all do just fine.
Just find shelter and hunker down

For the first time in my life, I am happy to see her go!
It has been a very hot and very dry summer here in southern Oregon. There has been no rain since middle of March 2021. Wells are going dry, ponds are shrinking and the fauna and flora is shriveling up, hurry and go.
In central Florida, I’m always ready for summer to go by mid July.
Never happy for the swift unrelenting passage of time but I am ready for cool weather. It seldom becomes unbearable cold here but it does get grey and stark broken only by the pansies in clumps by the fuel tank.
The last cut of hay is being done today. It is stemmy and tough without enough rain and too many near 100 degree days. The cats are happy today for the cool morning and i am enjoying it with them here on the porch listening to the birds, the hummers fight and watching someone else work for a change. Best to stay out of their way but I’ll start the Fall cleanup today of first trimming miles of fence lines. I like it trimmed so snow blankets evenly if it does.
If I could just be left alone here on our little land island I could mostly forget about the evil people.
It’s been a good summer here. No time to rest, the garden needs tending and God is with me always. Walk upright and proud, be happy you squint at the sunshine and inhale that fall air. The long shadows of September are walking across my yard and I can hardly wait to see what tomorrow will bring. God Bless Everyone and happy fall to all
What kind of magic fairy land do you come from?
Drops a turd all the time and never responds back.
Get lost!
Same here in the Houston area. While northerners start getting sad to see the end of summer, we start getting excited that our hot-as-hell weather will soon give way to moderate days. I always circle the first day of fall on my calendar. It won't be cool here by then, but that day means it may not be that far away.
The first cool day is the day I sit out on the deck enjoying a cigar and a drink with my faithful dog at my side. We never go out for leisure activities during symmer.
