The Dangerous Legal Illusion of ‘Parental Rights’
Politico ^

Posted on 09/05/2021 5:38:44 AM PDT by MNDude

Parents opposed to mask mandates cite a variety of arguments, be they philosophical or political, erroneous or conspiratorial. But perhaps the most common, misguided and dangerous reason is that mask mandates for school children violate ill-defined, but allegedly comprehensive and paramount, “parental rights.”

When it comes to society’s interest in protecting children, the legal precedent is unambiguous: The rights of their parents come second.

Well as long as you are willing to believe that society has no interest in protecting children still in the womb.

Ah, the puerile allure of a government that can do much for the people but somehow doesn’t end up doing much to the people.

What a poisonous article. The left is attempting to grease the skids of a transition to Government control. Leftist/socialist ideology must be rooted out of every crack & crevice. Why would any sane person trust a bureaucrat, most of whom are devout leftists, to have the welfare of a child foremost rather than their own assumption of power. Teachers are a prime example of overweening attempts to influence children and inculcate them before they are able to weigh & consider.

Imagine actually expecting society to oppose murder?

Well, it is labelled opinion. So, you can stick your opinion where the sun don’t shine, cupcakes.
As to this: “...Yet unmasked students are increasingly likely to become infected and infect others at a time when the Delta variant represents a serious threat to children...” what a load of BS.
“increasingly”? by what measure?
“infect others”? Uh, what about the fake vax, doesn’t it protect?
“Delta represents...” show me data.

The only threat here is setting a precedent wherein a bureaucrat can take kids off to a camp.
Homeschool. Right after you hire that courageous father who punched out a Karen.

I believe it was Sir Humphrey Appleby on Yes, Minister that best explained it that government agencies exist to serve the interest of professional and governing vested interest rather than the interest of those that they purport to serve.

Thus the central administration of education serves the teachers unions and the associated unions of local school administrators rather than the families trusting them to educate their kids. Though satire the comment was perspicacious. It’s all about power and jobs for in the end what amounts to a baby sitting service that may or may not educate or indoctrinate kids.

As an aside, having visited the site I noticed the ads there.

Featured were pictures of butts and busty women on pillows and a TRUMP Tee-shirt claiming the word 'TRUMP' is an audible fart.

Advertisers know well who visits Politico, don't they.

Can’t get too far, “society’s interest” is the legal illusion.

The Left seems to think that only the government has rights.

Society is made up of individuals. When you take their rights away, you take them from society. When you protect individual rights, you protect the rights of society.

Also, God was making families before these Liberals divorced their parents, but you can’t expect someone who doesn’t remember yesterday to understand that.

Seize a conclusion, that we all belong to the whims of whatever the government chooses for us, and argue back from there, so of course parents do not have “rights” in regards to how their children shall act and speak in the presence of others.

Can’t have any of this tribal or clan stuff going on, you know. Not “civilized”, doncha see.

If this is what “CIVILIZATION” has become, I say, stuff it..

The state owns all humans.

Human beings are slaves.

The elites are starting to whisper the little secret...

The government never fails to enforce parental responsibilities, such as paying for things. But it doesn’t believe there are any parental rights, since it can take your kids from you if you don’t use the “correct” pronouns and force you to pay for a sex “change” operation to which you don’t consent.

I think the situation is far worse than you suggest. Education is neither provided nor desired by the professional or governing bodies.
Johnny can’t read, do math or succeed in STEM. “Seventy-nine percent of the 8 th graders in the Chicago Public Schools are not grade-level proficient in reading, according to the U.S. Department of Education, and 80 percent are not grade-level proficient in math.”
Similar numbers exist for children in many other communities.
The NYC magnet schools are being filled on the basis of race rather than achievement or ability as evidenced by entrance exam score.
SAT average test scores have plummeted and the SAT tests have been dumbed down.
Even as babysitters the schools fail with children being exposed to violence, drugs, sexualization, and indoctrination. It’s a lot of work to homeschool and not a perfect solution but if there is no private or charter school available homeschool is the best option.
My daughter was homeschooled due to illness from 7th grade through entering college. Despite losing over a year she entered college with 32 advanced credits from the local community collage and did very well on SAT & GRE exams. Taking the extra time, effort & stomach lining to homeschool is one of the best things a parent can do for a child’s welfare & ability to achieve.

Hmmm... The feminists made a big deal out of bra burning in the 70s. How about a public school walkout and mask burning?

According to the woke, it is because people like us just won’t do as they are told to do.
