I used to wonder what kind of person to could witness a public execution. I’m beginning to understand.
I’m sure you could sell tickets to this one and net enough to build an interstate across the country.
The last public execution in Florida, a hanging on the courthouse lawn, was here in my county, Okaloosa, sometime in the 19-teens, IIRC.
Newspaper accounts of the time said it was like a carnival atmosphere. People brought their children and had picnics. Food vendors were doing a brisk business. People came from a hundred miles or more to watch something that only took a few minutes.......................
