The Highway of Death was a portent. It looked so bad on the nightly news, a la Viet Nam, but there were no bodies. The News got fixated on its own mirror. It was a Hwy of Death of trucks and tanks.
But it was days of future past, because when Arabs and their clients suffer a mechanical breakdown, they don't have the attention span to get it repaired so they can continue on their killer rampage, they just walk away from it.
But the Taliban have become the proprietors of a brand spanking new, mobile used car lot of some of the most finicky, temperamental military hardware in human history. (Maybe Biden will sign a service agreement with them.)
Along the way, their former mode of war, asymmetric, is lost to them forever. You can't be highly mobile raiders, suddenly appearing out of mountain ravines and disappearing into caves, when you've got thousands of military vehicles to protect.
The last time the Muslim world threw a monkey wrench into the world's works, was 9/11. Before that it was the Arab Oil Embargo. But it is the Americans who will have the last laugh this time. We have recruited them into our camp.
That’s why we have an ammo shortage, its was all sent to the Taliban ...
It’s only a problem for the Taliban IF they have dreams of imperialism. Historically, they’ve been more than content to hang out in Afghanistan. Sure, small numbers of folks have came there, trained, and went elsewhere, but they have not exactly tried to “blitzkrieg” anyone militarily.
I realize there is a strong desire to see a silver lining in all this (and there are a few...like finally being out of there), but the whole situation ended up being a giant black hole of American effort.
Who gets the C-RAMS?
We just threw that stuff away. There’s no putting a happy face on it.
My biggest concern about the Taliban is whether they will acquire access to Pakistan’s bomb. The Pakistanis have not yet recognized the Taliban regime. They were one of the first to do so back in the 90s. There are anti Islamabad insurgents operating out of Afghanistan. What position do these newfound treasures put the Taliban/Afghan army in vis a vis the Pakistani military?
An Afghan general said in the NY Times yesterday, when the American contractors left, they took the maintenence knowledge, software updates and key components of many of the weapons systems, so they were useless to the Afghan Army
BILLIONS of taxpayers hard earned money spent on weapons handed over to our enemies.
I want my money back!
F U JOE!
The fact that this happened is treachery on the part of Biden. The Taliban was given plenty of thermite grenades too, which when placed on an engine and ignited will melt through that engine, destroying it. The fact that they weren’t used is unbelieveable.
Burden achieved what obama tried to do- make the Taliban one of the most highly equipped armies in that part of the world.
No telling how many Taliban Biden imported who had bogus or no paper work at all.
But he say everybody can sleep better now he’s in charge.
Hope they took all of the keys with them. LOLZ
(Those who know - know)
They will just pull the equipment with horses and camels.
Admiral Kirby said this morning that all the helicopters were crippled before our leaving. That is worth noting.

Not disputing that Kirby said this, but there is a video that claims to be the Taliban taxiing a Blackhawk around an airport and one that seems to show a Blackhawk flying with a person hanging (by the neck) below it.
There was a video yesterday, too. That/those must be one/two of the choppers previously placed in the Afghan army, not one left at Bagram. How many of those there are, I have no idea.

Okay. I thought he was talking about all of them not just the ones used during the evacuation.
Oh yeh, we can take that to the bank! I am simply over-cynical of anything a govey official spews—no matter the country!
