Yea. I can’t afford anything advertised in Garden & Gun. It definitely appeals to the upper crust. It has a lot of good dog stories and recipes though.
It was Buckley himself who turned the magazine over to the losers who eventually wrecked it. And it’s not like he was fooled, he should have been aware of what they were. There was speculation at the time about why he was making the choices that he did. Maybe he was in a financial bind. Maybe he wanted to curry favor with his NYC dinner pals. Who knows. Whatever the reason it was his decision.

Florence King was definitely the best.
But it was Buckley himself who selected the worthless Lowry to take over National Review in 1997.
