The curious U.S. military alliance with the Taliban

The U.S. government appears to have a closer relationship with the Taliban than with its Afghan and NATO allies. The military withdrew from Bagram Airfield in the dead of night “without notifying the base’s new Afghan commander who discovered the Americans’ departure more than two hours after they left.”

The allies were not consulted when the US withdrew from forward military bases or withdrew from Bagram Airfield. Apparently, NATO allies were not informed about the closure of the U.S. embassy. This was only revealed when "German diplomats on their way to work noticed the US had withdrawn the forces to their own embassy." The Asia Times reported that "Lack of US consultation with NATO on its Afghanistan withdrawal plans left its allies in the dark and highly vulnerable." "U.K. officials told The Guardian that the worry is U.S. forces could leave and the British Army contingent is unable to secure the airport."

resident Biden stated, “I have seen no question of our credibility from our allies around the world.” Perhaps he has not seen questions about our credibility because he was on vacation or incapacitated. Armin Laschet, Angel Merkel’s replacement, described the Afghan withdrawal as “the greatest debacle that NATO has seen since its foundation” and called it “an epochal change that we are facing.” The UK Parliament voted to hold Biden in contempt for the Afghanistan pullout fiasco. Tony Blair declared, "America's retreat is imbecilic – and tells our enemies we don't have any interests or values worth defending.

The end of NATO? Part of the great reset? Well maybe it's time to stop paying for the defense of countries with American boys lives and taxpayer $ anyway. 'Tis an ill wind indeed that blows no good.

NATO was useful while the USSR existed. When it collapsed so did the justification for NATO. It’s time for Europe to pay for its defense.

This wasn’t “America’s doing,” it was Joe Biden and his moronic steering committee headed by Susan Rice & Barack Obama.

Just what "values" do we have anymore?

Ha! I'm pretty sure the Brits didn't have that kind of an arrangement with the Nazi's at Dunkirk!

Joe had no right and certainly no precedent for acting independently of our allies in his decision to leave A'stan OR to carry out the ‘plan’ as he has!! He has again embarrased us and put us in a position of eternal obligation to our allies. We may never live that down

Incompetence and retreat which benefit the Taliban does not mean alliance with the Taliban. The Taliban will be the first to tell you that the US government is not in alliance with them. The US government was beaten by them. Two completely different things.

The ironic thing is, a number of former Warsaw Pact nations are now, themselves, members of NATO.

I agree with Europe paying for its own defense.

In an earlier day... before aircraft... our troops would be stacking arms and be interned until exchanged. I guess the last time that happened was to the French colonial forces at Dien Bien Phu.

Yeah, I don’t believe Biden and his care-givers are capable enough to enter into an alliance with anyone. This was just dementia and incompetence.
