Aren’t Army officers expected to follow lawful orders?
As a general rule of thumb, I would follow the police orders, and consider suing them later.
Plenty of authority figures get out of control and make stupid decisions. But it’s bad practice for everyone to decide “I’ll do what I want and make my own decisions, thank you.”
The cop “misspoke”...right.
Active duty personnel follow the orders of military personnel of higher rank. A lot of cops are dickheads, but some are decent and brave.
They’re just the same as everyone else.
I find it odd that putting on certain clothes should allow someone to treat someone else like crap.
Cops are not military. Their orders don’t fall under DoD or UCMJ jurisdiction.
The Lt was out of line, and clearly fishing for a problem.
Depends if you believe everyone has the right not to get out of the vehicle?

Fine. But was this officer operating outside of civilian control? If a cop tells me to step out of my car, I do. I would think the officer would likewise feel that this is a proper response. Maybe he’s just one of those people who doesn’t like to follow orders.
I saw the full video when it fist came out and I disagree.
How many miles did the cops follow him with their lights on telling him to pull over, and when he does pull over, he pulls out his phone to record it?
The race of the person resisting arrest is of no consequence to me. Had he been white, I would feel the same.
He probably just doesn’t like cops.
I’ve had to get out of my car before because of some nervous chick cop. I left the gas station in my Trans Am at a decent speed, so she thought I robbed it. It’s a Trans Am, I sped away everywhere...
In Gainesville I was walking home from the store and a cop slams on his brakes and yells at me. I stop and he walks over with his hand on his gun, so I stand still. I had to spread my legs and interlace my hands behind my head. He said I matched the description of some B&E rapist. I said I’m an engineering student, and a veteran with a TS/SCI clearance. He ran my ID through his computer, and of course, never been arrested. He eyeballed me for about 30 seconds then let me go.
Yes. If the guy had pulled over some distance back when the police first turned on their lights, it would’ve been no more than a routine traffic stop.
Instead, just woke jack ass pumped these police officers into a state of high agitation, because they don’t know who’s in that vehicle or what that person is doing.
Once that dumb ass decided to make “his stand“ he deserved what he got, and he should’ve got worse from the army.
The cops were wrong. The soldier was right.
It’s a hassle, but it’s not hard. I think the Lt. turned it into a problem.

They worked themselves into 'a state of high agitation' in a well lit gas station where they could clearly see what was going on. How panicked would they have been trying to do it on a dark road?
He did, and it’s not what I would have done.
That said, I wasn’t happy being treated as a criminal on a busy corner at the University that I went to school.
Sorry, but Lt. Nazario was itchin’ for a fight, plain and simple. And in a world where some cops are indeed “out of control”, not complying with a simple and lawful order is idiocy, not to mention dangerous to all involved.
