During Wednesday’s briefing by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, CBS national security reporter Jennifer Griffin asked the two about the decision to abandon Bagram Air Base in the weeks leading up to Afghanistan’s collapse. That decision has proven to be crucial, as it left Afghanistan with no U.S. military support and now leaves the civilians stranded there with one option: to try to get to the Kabul international airport through Taliban checkpoints. The U.S. government issued a statement saying that it cannot guarantee their safety and that even if they can get to the airport, they will face a long wait.
That wait could have been made shorter and the evacuation safer with better planning and the use of Bagram Air Base, which has two runways. HKIA only has one.
...
Milley clearly says the plan to abandon Bagram came from the commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Austin “Scottie” Miller, in response to orders from Washington.
It’s tempting to call for Miller’s firing now, but there’s a problem with that. He already left.
...
Bagram is huge and could have been used to stage at least part of the non-combat evacuation operation (“NEO” in military-speak) that’s now underway. Milley says this is the second-largest NEO in U.S. history. Saigon, which Biden said would not happen, is probably the larger one Milley refers to.
...
This was the plan: bug out of the largest U.S. base in the dead of night without even telling our allies, then a week later reassure them that we were always going to stand by them— when the military knew Biden had no intention of doing so.

There’s alot of CYA going on in Washington DC right now. Hard to tell what the truth is anymore.
He followed orders - isn’t that special? He knew the right thing to do and he left thousands of US citizens behind. He has to live with his cowardice.
I would black out that combat infantryman badge.
Makes sense, LOTS of equipment for reverse engineering...
Milley and other top brass seek to blame an underling for this cluster frock
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
With the technology we have the damned equipment should have detonators inside every damn piece that can be remotely set off when they realize the Afghans were not going to fight every piece of equipment should have remotely been blown to bits!!!
Gen Milly is missing its “Order of Lenin”, hammer and sickle hair bow, and pentagram ear rings.
Build Back Burquas!
“Maybe he knows where those missing planes are...”
I would be looking East, past the Chinese/Afghan border, or Iran, Pakistan, Russia...
But yes, we have a number who know roughly how, and where, our planes went.
Even some in the Chinese Politburo have to be scratching their heads at how dumb and easy all of this has been.
Really wish Taiwan had some nukes right now...
It’s terrifying…not only for its possible consequences but for what it reveals about how the US operates these days. Turning off the electricity and slipping away in the middle of the night? Flat out lying by telling the Afghanis that they could rely on us, at the same time that our commanders there knew that we were planning on abandoning them? Betraying our allies (such as the Brits, who are furious)? And then listening to Biden blame the Afghan military for the whole disaster? Who the heck is ever going to trust us again?
This reveals such rot in our executive branch, which includes the State Department, and our military that I honestly don’t know how we can continue. Rot takes time to develop and this didn’t just start with Biden. I think you have the Obama years to thank for a lot of it - and don’t forget, Biden was also there - and this is just the final point where the whole rotted structure collapses.
Trump was just a brief, annoying interruption to them, and they got rid of him as fast as they could. He never had the support or even the cooperation of the military and I remember thinking at the time that Milley was not only close to insubordination but had actually gone there, and that there were several other high ranking military who were right there with him. And these are the very people we have to thank for this horror show.

In response to orders from Washington...that says it all.
So it's not Miller's fault and the question remains unanswered. Who gave the order?

He was a veteran of every operational force you’d want someone in that particular job to have experience with. I don’t care who he votes for, he did the time and put in the hours and years. Either he was a thirty year imposter or he was muzzled. Public hearings will tell the difference and we should demand them.
The Austin-Milley Tag Team. Do you feel safe now? I’m so relieved they are going after white rage and white racism (Trump supporters and Republicans) while Muslim Islamic fanatics kill, rape, pillage just like their so called prophet did in his day.
The Defense Corporations who put these two ineffective shill bozos in positions of authority care for one thing, sales of weapon systems for a military becoming increasingly woke and ineffective and for more profit they will sell to all enemies of the United States.
Two fat pig disgraces. Our lives, our freedoms mean nothing to these two fools, only corporation profits.
These Biden appointed, military idiots, morons & buffoons should be fired immediately..period!!! And Biden & Harris should be fired at the same time!!! The USA is dying!!!
It looks like chaos but it’s all planned. Everyone involved knew how it would shake down.
Taliban wins, they get the guns, they get the gold, they get the girls
China wins. Iran wins. Pakistan wins.
The West loses.
All according to plan.
Unfortunately, that is best for the country in the long run because it works to expose the entire Left as incompetent.
